How is it possible to get an .ie address if you don't own a company?

It would depend what you want it for, but the simplest thing to do is register a business name with the cro (http://www.cro.ie)

There are 11 different registration categories:
http://www.iedr.ie/QuickGuideToRegistrations.php

You might want to look through them briefly, but more than likely it'll be the Registered Business Name you are after.

Give one of the registries a call, we, for example, have a freephone number, you can call us and we can walk you through the requirements.

There's only one registry.

There aren't any official registrars
