I've just moved to the united arab emirates and EVERYTHING GOOD is blocked.... words like 'proxy' 'gay' and 'sex' and 'skype' can't even be searched!

I heard a proxy can get around this.

Can anyone explain what a proxy is to me and how to use it?

I'll need to download one I reckon rather than use an online one so if someone could send a good one to me or a link to a good one for me I'd e very appreciative.

Ok, a proxy is a server through which you route your internet connection. For your use you do not need to install anything.

You have to find a proxy that you want to use (google). It will give you an IP address and a port number. You then have to enter this IP and port number into the connection settings in your web browser.

Note that many of them don't work and many are very slow. It will take a good bit of trial and error to get it right. Read more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server

    Alternatively, try something like http://www.proxify.com

Also bear in mind a lot of these proxy sites are setup for dodgy purposes and there's a possibility of them intercepting important info (email address's, credit card numbers etc)

In the LAN settings in internet explorer, there's a section for proxy server and a box for the address and port. What do I fill in here?

Remembre I can't access any sites which have proxy in the url!

    Cheers for help =]
