    The Blurb:
Rainbow Islands - The Story of Bubble Bobble 2 (c) 1987 Taito.

Rainbow Islands is a sequel to the legendary "Bubble Bobble" - released a year earlier - and has attained the same legendary status as that of its illustrious predecessor. One or two players (who, unlike 'Bubble Bobble', no longer play simultaneously) take on the role of Bub and Bob who, after their success in Bubble Bobble, have now been returned to their original human form. The heroes have been asked to rescue the Rainbow Islands from the clutches of the various enemies who have overrun the islands. Bob and Bob are each armed with the ability to create rainbows; an ingenious game-play device that acts as both a weapon (to either kill an enemy instantly, or an enemy then collapse the rainbow onto it, this is essential for collecting bonus gems, (see 'Tips and Tricks' for details) and as a platform that allows the players to reach previously inaccessible parts of the level as they race to reach the top of the island before the game's tight time limit expires.

A number of power-ups are available to the players; including multiple rainbows (up to a maximum of three), faster generating rainbows, speed-up shoes and temporary invulnerability. Rainbow Islands is famous for its multitude of hidden secrets, see 'Tips and Tricks' for details.

Rainbow Islands consists of 7 levels, each with 4 rounds. Holding down the jump button will allow the player to jump onto rainbows without crushing them.

    Good luck!

Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to this round. My laptop is fudged, the keyboard and touchpad freeze whenever I'm playing certain games in Mame (The one thing I bought the damn laptop for!! ) R-Type especially drove it AND me bananas!!

I'll be back with a score after lunch.............hopefully!

I am truly awful at this game but will contribute some scores because it's just such a joy to play :)

I had a quick go - Oh oh I think I need my joystick for this one - timing those jumps with the rainbows - is a bit tricky with the keys. Lovely game though. First attempt and died pathetically on World 2 - round 7

    324,450 pts

    Wow... Joystick really helps...

800,490 pts Round 11 on Monster Island. Made loadsa mistakes. I didn't bother trying to get the diamonds in order from left to right. Just made sure to get them all on each world. Only thing is the fire button is sluggish.

Keyboard-wise - it will be tricky - steadykey support in mame is supposed to allow multiple keyboards - ideal for jumping and firing rainbows but I can't hit any keys at all if I check that.

Yup, this game is so sweet - my eyes will rot! Enough for today! :D

Yeah Retr0gamer - you'll love this game - I found a lot of extras not on the Amiga version - although the angel wings were... which I just came across.

Round 11 also, forgot how good this game was. Used to do speed runs up some of the early levels back in the day. Ever notice how when you fall you always seem to skillfully avoid any useful landing spots instead of hitting them :D

Yeah... all the time. Currently on monster world and I always slip off those tiny mid platforms and end up praying and hoping that I stay falling between platforms! :o
Having a great laugh anyhow. This game is addictive! A little bit further into Monster Island - round 12 - 909,210 pts... losing all my lives on this round!

Oh dear - I haven't had a chance to get near this classic game since. Anyone else? I'll leave this round open for a couple more weeks - unless people are dying to get to the next game on the list.

Never too late! Wish I had more time sigh! Used to love this game on the Amiga - had it on the flight of fantasy pack and had it completed within 2 months. Couldn't do that now. I always found Dragon Island one of the easier ones - Robot islands I was always edgy with. God those were happy days... I still was getting used to the lovely excess candy color and slow screen fades. :D

Currently into Zork2 (solved a riddle with bank today those who know it) and Mddclone (deep underground) right now.
