This morning I felt like booting up one of the old Amiga harddrive files from a few years back. Let's try Hired Guns.

This fantastic futuristic Dungeon Master clone had a lot going for it back in 1993. Developed by DMA design (the same crowd behind lemmings) it took advantage of the beefier Amigas if available - 2Mb.

The music is pretty good and the game layout well thought out.

Getting into the game, I first decide on a 1,2,3 or 4 player game. Each player's progress can be seen through a separate window. I pick a single player game and build up the team like as any other Dungeon crawl.

So off on our first mission, a easy start - you can move the scanner to view the other islands and higher threats.

    To be continued...

After picking a landing site, your team gets into operation starting outdoors. Geniunely a creepy game with thunder and lightning. Game has auto-mapping and you can split up the team all four ways.

You move around in a step block format like Dungeon Master / EOB. The team members frequently comment on their situation - "It's cold" - "I thought I heard something".
The levels have multiple floors - I remember move those white crates (see the scrshot with stacks of them in the distance) - can be used to block doorways or reach impassible areas.

Gawd! I think I want to complete this game!

This is an absolute classic game. I spent an entire summer playing this with a few mates. I'd gotten one of those adapters so you could use 4 joysticks in dynablaster so I got could use of it with Hired guns to boot! :) I'll never forget that character select screen either although a lot of the choices were rubbish....

I hope to get going on this one this week Logie before my 2 week holiday break is up! :( Any beginner tips for me? :) My background here is playing this game on the Amiga Format demo disk back in April 1993 thinking... hmmm... I'd love to have time to play the full game... so here I am! :D
