    3 quick questions:

-Can you tell from a site who provides hosting ?
    - Where would one find out the most uptodate info on a whois site ?
    - why does the number of threads in this forum sometimes show 3 pages and other times over a 100 ?

You can look at the domains nameservers or IP address to find out who the hosting company is.

First type their domain into a whois check and look at their nameservers:

I find you get more complete information off the register365 whois than a lot of the others:

It's probably one of the better ones as it will give you the actual IP and country etc., of the site, whereas standard whois just shows you the nameservers

Another one to look at is dnsstuff.com

That's a pretty neat whois and domain history actually. Came across it before but forgot to bookmark. Now my new favourite! :D
