Problem with AVG updates?

For the last week or so every time I switch on my computer the AVG icon in the system tray is black and gray instead of its usual colours and i get an error message saying that I need to restart my computer for the most recent update to take full effect.
When I restart the problem goes away but next time I switch on the computer the same thing happens.
When I try and update in this situation it is always unsuccessful.
I have re-installed it but the same thing is happening.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks in advance

Is your date and time settings correct? Are you using any onther AV programs?

Yes time and date settings are correct. The only other AV programs installed are windows defender and adaware.

It's hardly a vista compatability issue?

Haven't noticed the problem, are you using the free version? You could try repairing the installation, something might have borked during the update.

Im running AVG free here on Vista basic. You shouldnt be asked to restart after an update. As philstar said, downloading the latest version should sort it out.

I've experienced this once or twice also. The solution: right clicking on the icon in the system tray and just selecting to update AVG. Of course, your problem may be different. Do try installing the latest version, as martin84 has suggested.
