"Active Instruments"

    Just reading the manual on the aul firepod and it says "active instruments" have to be plugged in the back.

    Now, what's an "Active Instrument"? It says it's an instrument with it's own pre-amp, but does that include an electro-acoustic? I know it takes in keyboards and samplers etc, just wondering about the acoustic, it has a battery in it for the equaliser etc.

    An acoustic is an active instrument. Basically, the difference as far as plugging it into anything is some active instruments can have a much higher output than regular passive instruments and, as a result, can distort easily if you don't watch your volume. Generally inputs designed for active instruments take the signal in at a quieter level. On amps you might see it as High Z and Low Z, you'd plug a passive intrument into the High Z input, the active into Low Z, though this confuses a lot of people, so some are changing labelling it to Passive and Active.
