Gaming laptop for e1400?

I've been seriously thinking of buying a laptop for over a year now. I was consider a Dell XPS M1710, but I couldnt justify spending 2 grand on a laptop, plus its price hasn't changed much over the past 8 months.

I know if you want to play games you need a desktop but I am looking for something that would play games like company of heroes and counter strike reasonably well and possibly be able to handle some new games. I know 1400 isn't a lot for a gaming laptop but does anyone have any possible suggestions. My other requirements are Vista, a minimum of 120gb hd and at least a 14 or 15inch screen.

I did notice the Asus F3JP for e1016 http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/Asus_F3Jp_Laptop_F3JP-AP104C/version-1.asp it seems pretty good for its price, whats the ATI Radeon X1700 supporting 512MB HyperMemory like, sh*t?

i just googled the graphics card, it has 256mb ram which is more grand for the games you want to play. with 2gb ram, the card will be able to get more memory if needed. ATI cards are pretty good any way. seems like a good laptop for the money as well

Last time I checked Hypermemory and the nVidea equivalent (turbocache I believe it's called) are rubbish and don't offer any performance gain and are just used as a marketing ploy. I don't think the card can even address to the additional memory. Try this to see if the card can run the games you want at acceptable frame rates.

The Mobility x1700 is a good card. Sure the Hypermemory is marketing but its better then NOT having hypermemory, unless it's a ridiculous figure (like a terrible low end card with 64 dedicated and hundreds HM). It runs Company of Heroes pretty good, leaning towards highish settings, and you'll have no problems running CS:S at native res at very high settings.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but the 7400 is an overclocked 7300 so it's results should be slightly better than the 7300.

I have a Go7400, I made a screenshot thread here, although some of the pictures are not hosted anymore, you get a good idea of its capabilities.

It performs considerably better then a Go7300, more then just 'slightly'.

I have narrowed it down to 6 in my price range. I've decided against going with Dell because it seems I'll get more for my money elsewhere and I don't think I could handle dealing with their customer support again.

The graphics card is a NVidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB, I take it this is a lot better than the ATI Radeon X1700 supporting 512MB HyperMemory?

Not really, probably about the same from what early opinions are saying, it might do better in benches but...we all know how that can work out with the x2900xt..it does support Dx10 obviously though so that is a plus, however, it's far too weak a card to really actually support any dx10 games well most likely so I wouldn't use that as a point to base a decision on.

Out of all those laptops you posted, some of them have Go7300, X1400, Go7600SE - avoid this ones, at least, certainly when you're looking at other laptops with the 7600 and X1700. I'd go for the X1700 one out of all you've posted...if you're gaming.
