Modding a 4pin molex to 3pin fan

hi i need a bit of help here i want to cut off the molex and attach a 3pin connector so i can plug it into ma fan controller thing is the molex has only a red and a black goin to the molex from the fan ? as far is i know attach the black to black and the red to yellow? what are peoples opinions?

Cut the small wires at the molex end...

Connect the red fan cable to the yellow fan connector cable

Connect the ground to the ground....
