i'm heading off in september to do some travel in south america and hoping to spend a few weeks on east coast doing some surfing.....anyone have any experience doing that or have advise on the best areas?????

But then you said east coast, didn't you? Pity, because the worlds (reputedly) longest left is in N Peru. Some good but dirty surf not far outside Lima. Spent a few days in San Bartolo last year, have 20 breaks to choose from within a 15 minute drive. All looks like Beirut, though.

Good beaches around Buenos Aires in Argy, and near Montevideo in Uruguay too.
