Well there used to be a taste diff. between avonmore and premier - I am sure of this. We were always avonmore. Nowadays I couldn't be sure to be sure

Same in Canada, you buy a little jug that the bag sits into.

Very handy for freezing too, those bags are. When I visited my grandmother over there years ago I thought she'd lost it a bit when she told me to take milk out of the freezer, but when I opened it there were about 10 bags of milk in it. Not much use if you want to use it straight away though.

I think I'll stick with Bluewhale milk.

I've hated milk since we were forced to drink it UN-REFRIGERATED at lunch every day in Junior school.

Exact same thing happened to me, but I'm recently back drinking it again. Avanmore ftw.

i prefer premier. also find that the 2litre plastic bottles have a different taste than the cartons, by different i mean mingin!

Avonmore ftw. Plastic bottles suck, and no-one else will agree with me that milk is different in differnt counties. Avonmore is a lot nicer then Cork milk, Limerick milk is alright...but NCF milk is just disgusting.

That reminds me, has anyone noticed the difference in taste between the Premier milk paper cartons (1 Litre) and the plastic containers (2 Litres). The milk from the plastic containers is disguisting, it has a weird smell and taste.

Premier Dairies is nicer than Avonmore, but I like both. Don't like either them from the plastic containers though, rotten aftertaste from them.
Aldi & Lidl milk tastes grand from the plastic containers though and at €1.19 for a 2 litre is so much better value!
    Golden Vale milk is disgusting..

I hate milk from plastic bottles! Whenever they're bought and I complain about the taste I'm looked at like I'm insane. But it's definitely nowhere near as nice!

Premier Dairies ftw. Oh and nothing but full fat. Slimline is grey water!

Seriously though, try the milk from Aldi or Lidl in the plastic containers. I wouldn't try it for ages cos all the rest were rotten, but my brother said that they were different. Don't know whether the plastic is different or what, but there's no bad taste at all.

all liquids taste bad out of plastic containers. cans of drinks are much nicer than plastic bottles, milk tastes better from paper cartons or glass bottles (those were the days) than plastic bottles. it's in another thread I know, but I'd love to see water in cans (no, I don't mean watering cans!!!)

I used to have a summer job in a creamery and our own brand milk was more expensive that the milk we had for the supermarket contract.

    Exaxt same product-just fancy packaging
It's not just about the milk, that is a massive oversimplification. It's about the branding. What type of person am I? An Avonmore person? Or a Premier person? The type of milk I buy defines who I am and how I feel about myself. It's a statement to the world.

Mmmm used to love drinking the cream from the top of the bottle... when the bastard crows hadn't pecked through the lid and drunk it already that is.

Ahh this thread brings me back to the milk wars of the 90's, hard times, expecially when Golden Vale saw an oppertunity and started with all the espionage and product sabotage, but we won out in the end.

Avonmore milk is vastly superior to *, all the others taste like crap.

Avonmore Milk, everything else sucks especially all milk packaged in Plastic Bottles, it tastes rank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,383 ✭✭✭emeraldstar

    Avonmore ftw :D
haven't really ever noticed THAT much of a difference between carton and plastic...not so much that would put you off drinking it like...

It's All The Same FÚcking Milk

Yes, your Tesco or SuperValu milk is Glanbia milk which is Avonmore and Premier so I believe. And for some mad reason, it's cheaper.

This is true. Aldi milk seems to be grand in the 2 litre plastic.
The worst is Avonmore from a one litre plastic bottle. Terrible.

Ha i love this thread! I noticed this years ago and always wondered. Avanmore is always so much more expensive and people said its nicer. I dont get it.

And the plastic thing is so true. I actually cant drink from plastic bottles any more. Its disgusting. the milk tastes completely differant and everyone thinks im mad

Can anyone remember the milk that was delivered to primary schools (at least where I was in the middle o nowhere town, co.Meath, that we had to deliver on trays around the classrooms) to people who had paid for it? I think the carton had a cyclist on it.
