Ah right, just sent off an email about the stand missing. Wonder if I'll get a reply? I'll probably give it to my dad since I have the ipod video but the screen size is great and just transferred an episode of Prison Break on to it and it's sweet

    1) The firmware on my device reads D.1.2.1 On the neuros site, they have firmware 1.2.4 and 2.0. can I update my firmware even though I am well below their update level.

Anyone find the release notes for the firmware? The links to the release notes just seem to give instructions on how to upgrade the firmware?

I've yet to get mine but hopefully it has arrived today. My brother got his on Friday and it contained the stand. He couldn't get TV/IN working but I'd say that the TV/Lock button wasn't pressed which I presume is needed. Can you schedule a video recording on it?

That doesn't seem to play DivX though..... It only says MPEG-4.

Anyone know of similar items that play DivX? Or anyone selling their Commodore? :)

Did you change the setting in the setup for TV out to "PAL" ??
you only need to press the TV button once....when you press the TV button then the screen turns black (if you hold the TV button for 2 seconds then it locks the keys)

TV Out working fine for me. Haven't managed to get the TV in working though but I've still to have a proper look at it.

Got two sets of video cables included in mine as well. Reckon this is a mistake as only one set mentioned in the contents on the manual.

Got mine today.. It's cool and all, but it's crashing a lot. Has anyone tried the firmware upgrade yet? I don't want to be the guinea pig :)

No problems here doing the firmware upgrades incrementally. It's crashed just the once, otherwise it works fine standalone and TV-out.

What was shipped on yours? Mine was 1.2.3.. Did you use the firmware on the link posted on the previous page? Sorry, always nervous about firmware upgrades.

Here's what I like about it - I like the tv playback function, tested it briefly last night, I think I'll get use out of that. I like the chunky size and the cover, means I can let my son watch his favourite video of funny cats on a loop. Like the earphones, they feel nice if not a little large. They don't pop out of my ears, which is a good thing!

What I don't like - haven't been able to record from tv yet, although that could be user error, I don't see how I could mess it up with the basic instructions they give. Wish it had speakers built in. Crashes a lot, particularly if the wiggly power cable wiggles in it. I also have a lot more work to do to get used to its menus, I keep doing things I don't want to do :)

Has anyone managed to record of d'telly yet? That's my main concern with it at the moment..

i hope to record off tele tonite. But one thing to look out for (if i am correct) is that if you plug in the "yellow white and red" plugs into the tele you want to record from you have to make sure that they are not just video and audio IN sockets on your tele - I think (though I may be wrong) that front plug sockets on teles are normally input only).

If you have none of these sockets on the back of the tele you would want to get a scart adaptor (fully wired) and plug the yellow white and red into this.

Just checked I was using "In" sockets so this was my problem. Will try recording using the scart socket later. Im using Chorus so hopefully that wont cause any trouble...

I haven't done the firmware upgrade yet but would be interested to know how to do it and what updates people are using.

As for recording from the TV , my TV has no tv out sockets, I don't think many TVs do. I did however hook it up to the output on the dvd recorder and was able to record TV that way. I presume it would be the same for the output on video players. Incidentally I was also able to record from a dvd on to the player.:)

I used the same instructions for the Neuros 442 as in Scruffs post and it worked no problem.

Bit the bullet with the firmware upgrade, that was grand.. whew :)

I was trying last night with our dvd/hdd/vcr recorder thingy.. Took the scart cable leading to the tv out, plugged in the cable which came with the device using a scart converter, no joy. When recording worked for you, did you get a preview on the player while it was recording, or was it just showing a black screen? Knowing the answer to that will speed up tests immeasurably! Also, did you just use the cable that came with it? I don't know if I'm doing this wrong or if it is broken :(

When you are recording from the TV/DVD player then you plug from your TV/DVD into the Line In port on your commodore and then go to the PVR function. You use the TV out function when playing something from your commodore onto your TV

just to clarify cos i thought your last post was a little confusing...

Ye a preview does come up when you are in PVR mode and recording from the TV/VCR/DVD to the commodore. I used the cables that came with it. Also, I didn't disconnect the scart from the dvd recorder just used the RGB output on the back of dvd recorder.

could this be connected to a satellite receiver in the same way - i.e scart at back of receiver to the commodore - and effectively be used as a screen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 726 ✭✭✭Lister1

No TV Out sockets on my TV and I just have a normal DVD player so I cant put the TV through this(altough I can use it to record DVDs). I tried connecting it directly to the chorus box using a scart adaptor but no go either. Anyone else have any sucess in connecting it directly to the Chorus box?

ok, i just used one of these from my friend

    http://www.aldi.ie/special_buys/product_166.html

popped it into the back of the TV and switched it to output. Records fine, no problem at all.
so basically, i had the TV aerial going into the back of it, this wee device into the scart socket set to OUT and records from it fine

went down to the Sky TV, its has two scart sockets on the back. One connects to teh TV, so i plugged the wee device into teh other one, still set to OUT and it recorded it fine too

so basically, get one of these things on Thursday :)

Have you tried pressing the "TV/LOCK" button? The player screen goes blank and video should appear on the TV.

This is probably a very stupid question (apologies in advance), but what is firmware and why do you need to update ?

it's updated software to fix bugs in the system - but the firmware here is not specifically for the commodore but another brand of the same system - but updating this firmware would probably invalidate your warranty so its your risk.

Are the component cables plugged into the correct inputs on the TV? Have you tried the player with another TV? The cables might be the problem, you could try the second set of cables (if you got them with the player).

Let us know how you get on.
