Ive goten the new command and conquer game but it wont play in my pc.
I get a warning to check that my graphics card meets the spec or that i have directx9 installed.

Im guessing its failing because my comp is crap.
    im runing a dell dimension 2400 ,
    512mb ram,
    80gb hd,
onboard graphics (intel extreme 1585 (or something) chipset)
    and onboard sound.

the specs for the game are
    Official Minimum Specification Requirements

OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit; 64-bit versions of Vista are not supported)

CPU: 2.0GHz or high, or AMD equivalent, Vista - 2.2 GHZ

RAM: 512 MB or more, Vista - 1GB RAM or more

Disk Drive: 8x or faster DVD drive for retail SKUs, not required for digitally downloaded version

Hard Drive: 6.0 GB or more of free space

Video: GeForce4, ATI Radeon 8500 or greater (ATI Radeon 9200 and 9250 PCI, NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX cards not supported.). Windows Vista - NVIDIA GeForce 6100 or ATI Radeon 9500 or greater. Labtop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported.

Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

Network, Internet Multiplayer: 2 players (no voice support) – 56 Kbps Internet connection; 2-8 players (with voice transmission) – Broadband-class connection

i plan on buying a new computer at some stage next year but i cant afford it at the moment,
i can just about scrape enough together for a graphics card,
does anyone know if this card would work?
the spec says GeForce4, i cant find anything thats GeForce4 ?
Gainward GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR, PCI, "PRO/660TV/DVI",Tv-Out, Retail
i dont have any pci-e or agp slot (ya, i know... :o )

    Thanks for the help lads.

I have not yet gotten my copy of C&C 3 yet myself but it uses lots of Direct-X 9 effects but looking as the minimum requirements there appears to be a Direct-X 8 mode at least.

In terms of getting the most performance here are suggestions going from best to well worst.

    Radeon X1300
    GeForce 6200 256MB
    GeForce 5200 256MB
    GeForce 5200 128MB

You will need to play at a low resolution as well like 800x600 or 1024x768 & details will be sacrificed it wont look like it does in the screenshots.

Do NOT buy a graphics card that will scrape by.. better off not playing it than playing on 2 frames a second, which is what the fx5200 will give you.

How much money do you have to spend on a graphics card? Its AGP right?

I mean if u have 50 euros, you can pick up a 2nd hand 6600 GT easily, and the game should be playable on low settings.

Never use your own judgement to buy a graphics card, you will always end up with a trick card (like the fx5200) which is only a smidgen better than the onboard graphics.

Just go to tomshardware.co.uk and on the right you will see a section called VGA charts. Check the performance of the card you want in whatever games, try several. The 7600GT is best value for money at the mo, prob about 140euro new.

Watch out for tiny differences in name, a 7600GT is over twice as fast as a 7600GS in certain games, and don't let the onboard memory fool you either.

more than likely would be able to run it at full spec. you might want to add another gig of ram too. not sure how resource intensive CnC3 is.

C%C is pretty easy on hardware anyway. It actually runs fine on Integrated Intel graphics. An Fx5200 should be relatively ok for the game, nothing fancy but it will work fine, better then '2 frames a second' and an Fx5200 is more then just a 'smidgen' better then onboard, but it's still fairly crap in the general view of things. If you are getting a new machine soon anyway I too would just go for the basic 50 euro 128mb model to get you buy.

Another thing to look out for is low profile - if it is low profile, these cards have surprisingly good demand when you go to sell it on - I have no problem selling 2 fx5200s a few months ago for about 60% of their retail value. Even the full height models are easy to sell.

Frederico he doesn't have an AGP slot so he is limited to PCI cards so that means no AGP or PCI-e cards can be used.

One other option is eBay there is a PCI FX5500 256MB which is just an overclocked 5200 going for €54 which is not bad so if I was going to get something very cheap I would try and bag that (another FX5500 here).
