Excellent videos. Is it a bird strike that caused the engine failure in the Hawk? Just see something travelling at center to left for a split sec on take off.

Yep, it was a training flight, and one of the engines suffered bird ingestion at about 200 feet, after which they climbed to ejection attitude and got out safely.

Googling bird strikes throws up some weird and wonderful stuff, some of which is borderline NSFW and so I won't directly link to here.

Yeah ... I've got an old canopy at home (used to fly regularly in the alps) but conditions in Ireland a very tricky. While you do want wind, you don't want too much of it. Plus a lot of suitable mountains/hills are very difficult to get to ...landing zones can also be a problem (fckin sheep everywhere:D ).

Spent a lot of time getting to possible places, hiking up only to hike down again, drenched and frustrated ...sort of gave it up now

Not the kind of hobby that you can plan ...the few times conditions are good, there's usually something else on , work mostly.

That guy in the vid above is nuts btw ....

A slightly dodgy "touch"down into Gatwick from Krakow a good while back, with Wizz Air I think. Nothing on the scale of those, though. I shudder to think what it feels like looking out the side, not to mention seats 0L and 0R!

I had a landing like that once in Frankfurt.
The approach right through a thunderstorm was very shaky and bumpy, the woman accross the aisle from me was panicking and hyperventilating and when we finally were about to touch down (looking out through the window we couldn't have been any higher than 30 ft off the ground) the pilot had to accelerate and go up again because of the windshear and we had to go through the whole shaky procedure again.

Look at this lads, a VERY close call there, at an airport down under, as the Controller says you have to see it to believe it! Its also nice to hear the commentary from the Controllers! Its a military airport as you can all see with the chinook typ aircrafts on the apron.
Im sure most of you have seen this already, but it hasn't been posted here yet AFAIK so for those of you that haven't....

OK is a 747 landing at Princess Juliana International Airport in the North Eastern Carribean. The Island is St.Maarten and if you search youtube there are quite a few of these! Its crazy in my opinion, dangerous in the event of a problem but also the noise levels and disruption!

One more! This was during an air show where the pilot was hovering in the harrier, An engine failure occured as the pilot was just beginning to perform a 'Bow' to the crowd, as the finale to the Air Show display.
When engine failure occurs in this situation there is no way to recover because there is no forward thrust or momentum: Here it is!
