It's an excellent strategy, you basically enter a sit n go, sit out till you've hit the bubble, or even better the money. The only problem is you usually have between 1 and 3.5 BB, so you really need to catch some cards, tight play deffo goes out the window. I actually came close to winning one once without ever sitting down. One of these days I'll do it.
Although it's a pain in the arse for you, ironically enough, it's not for me, cause I rarely ever sit down.

How is it more difficult when you can just keep stealing the blinds of those who are sitting out?

And how is it a good strategy when you could basically mirror it by playing uber tight and only playing lik JJ+?

Friday night the software wouldn't let me join games for the first 2 levels, I kept getting 'Join table timed out' messages (I'm running under a very old PC which can't really handle the new software). Twice I managed to finally join a game when there was only 5 out of the original 10 left, win one hand and in the money.
But in general it wouldn't be a good idea for a strategy as Breadmonkey pointed out.
