Its all a matter of taste. I didn't find the original comment on that thread funny, but thats just me.

I'm confused...are people suggesting we censor the entire internet because kids might see it?

Equally you can ignore my posts but you choose not too, funny that. Again my problem is not the jokes but posting them where anybody can read them. As an adult I can choose not to but as I've said before Boards is open to be read by people of any age.

No, I just found the joke funny. The one on the first page "What causes paedophelia?" is my personal favourite.

mikedragon32 put it perfectly when he said
"as a responsible mature adult, I can draw the line between humour & reality."

Its a joke, no kids were harmed in the making of the joke!

But can you agree that Boards is open to be viewed by people who do not fit into this description? And therefore the comments such as suggesting oral sex with a 7 year old should not be allowed on Boards.ie?

Ok, where are you drawing this line? Whats the bottom age? I man, you can be any age and look at boards, just cannot post, and lets face it, you can lie when registering.

So, shall we get rid of the all the religious boards because someone form another religion may not like the others, should we get rid of the LGB boards and the personal issues boards because children can see them?

Lets get rid of the Simpsons on the TV whilst we're at it, plenty of adult humour there, broadcast at all hours of the day.

In fact perhaps Sky News shouldnt report on such things as rape, sex crimes or anything other than how Barney got on today untill after 9pm or something?

You cannot in all seriousness start calling for people to be banned, or subject to "heavy" punishment on the premise that some children may accidentally or deliberately gaze upon boards.ie.

In case you're interested, yes I have three kids, eldest seven, including a daughter. I find jokes about such things funny, that is a long way from becoming a participant. People find such jokes funny because they are shocking or out of the ordinary. Why else are people like Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais so successfull, that's the entirity of their routines.

No. I can't agree with you, on the basis that you believe that if I agree with you on that point, then I must also agree that posting suggestions such as the one that has caused all this should not be allowed.

Of course they should be allowed, but perhaps not in particular fora within boards.

The OP's demands for site-wide bans for such posts is ludicrous.

I merely meant would you continue to read my posts?

Anyway I'll wait in hope that an Admin comments on here soon or an AH mod.

Where did you go to school?

I've never heard any jokes on boards that were any worse than there.

Most of the comments I see here already are just typical to todays society. I can Guarantee if you or someone close to you who was abused you would not see the funny side. That's what's wrong with people, they live a blinkered life in such topics.

Again, ask the child who has been abused for years if they find it funny.

I will leave it at that.

Ah come on dude, your projecting your feelings onto other people which is rubbish.

Your not a fan of jokes about child sex abuse, then fair play, but I will bet dollars to donuts that you laugh at things other people would not be at all comfortable with so if you can remove the extra long legs from that horse your sitting on that would be nice.

I think the point is that we need to nip this sort of behaviour in the bud. If we don't then next thing ya know people will be posting pictures of themselves with a baby hanging off their crotch!

Do you tell these child sex abuse jokes to your children?

Any more child sex abuse jokes here will result in a ban.
This is not the place for them.

    Another thought for you 6th...

Perhaps if a child is to stumble across jokes on the this (or any other) site, then maybe it might be up to his or her parents to supervise them while they surf?

Parents don't let their 7 year olds watch porn, violent movies or anything they deem unsuitable. Why should the net be any different?

I didn't delete the joke because I kept getting database errors, so I just edited it instead.

Can somebody give 6th a modship ASAP so his strenuous efforts to police boards are legitimized? :D

Informing people about world happening be it crime or whatever is providing an informative service. What is the point in making jokes about raping kids?

As i have stressed I have no problem with the jokes but with where they are made. Lolocaust is great and feel free to post there.

I really dont want to be banned, so could you please clarify. Is it just child abuse we cant laugh at. Are racist, sexist, or man-walks-into-a-bar jokes still allowed?

I agree with you and I will carefuly monitor net access when my kids can use the computer. Porn sites state that they are for 18+ as do movies ... do you think that Boards should put in an age verification? Sex& Sexuality is for subscribers only ... why is that?

    Sweet mother of jebus!

    No!

He's been trying so hard for so long now, it'd be a shame for him to get Mod. Remember what happened when David finally got Maddie in Moonlighting...

Of course I don't think that Boards should put in age verification. Where do you draw the line on the responsibility of parents to supervise their kids's surfing activity?

Are you so naive as to assume that if there's no 18+ warning on a website that it MUST be 100% kid friendly?

What about TV? Some stations have content in the afternoons that is meant for mature audiences, that while not showing explicit adult contenct, do allude to it.

Why should I worry about what I post on the basis that your kid might read it?

Of course I don't. I repeat them to adults, and in adult company. Why would I tell them those sort of jokes? I tell them jokes that are appropriate to their age.

    What a silly question.

Everything is funny in the context of a joke.

End of this ****ing whinge-bitching moral high ground prude debacle!

My point is that as you object to such adult things being disseminated in a forum where children have ready access to surely the same can be said about television and television news in particular, with its tabloid culture focusing on the salacious aspects of any such case.

Actually, the same goes for newspapers as well.

I can assure you no-one else does.

As for the jokes? I don't think anything should be taboo when it comes to humour among friends, however, I certainly wouldn't tell a joke like that to a crowd of people I didn't know, for fear of offending. Yes they can be offensive, but they're also funny.

That hits the nail on the head, which is why there is a private humour forum on boards.

I think what happened on that thread was sensible anyway, the post was removed. Some people want bannings as a result, and a basis is given that children can read boards.

Fair enough. Can we delete the thread about sex in the next room keeping you awake, please, just in case my kids happen to read it?

Actually before this thread gets locked I would like to say that I do go against the Op on one major point.

He says that a victim would not find these jokes funny ... I was a victim of sexual abuse and have no problem with the jokes once told in the appropriate surroundings.

My point again is that its not right to make these comments flipantly on public forums (take it to Lolocaust).

I have come out as a victim sexual abuse here (not an easy thing) in the hope that people realise that it affects fellow posters who they wouldnt expect and in the hope that fellow victims feel that Boards is not a place where they need to feel ashamed or ridiculed.

I would also like the 6th bashers to see that I dont post to become a mod or for postcount++ but because I am a real person who has opinions based on life experiences.

Thats all I have to say on this and I hope the mods and admins on here continue to delete inappropriate comments which may cause real hurt or offense.

    cheers

    Mark
