Open Source DVD 'producer'?

Hi, Is there such a thing ? One that allows a person to mix photos and vid footage and soundtracks to create the ultimate home movie experience. which will then sit on a shelf until DVD players are no longer in production or something. All suggestions welcomed ! thanks PS what the fek is BluRay ?

No experience of it but Cinelerra seems to be the best bet. We are not blessed with too many options in this department ... yet!
