The WL66Z is the newest model of the 2 and has a better response time, better speakers and better contrast. for EUR50 extra it is the one i would choose from th 2 listed.

Cheers. is that basically the best 37" LCD I could get for that price?

The Toshiba lcds are one of the better brands, and for that price you will probably not find a better set.

I'd nip over to the plasma and lcd sections of www.avforums.co.uk and ask your question over there. Word is is that almost across the board LCD isn't as good as plasma for SD (Standard Def) material whereas both are as good as each other with HD (HiDef)

Plasma may be a better buy when you will primarily be watching SD and as long as you get a HD Ready model you are also prpared for HD a few years down the road. I will probably be getting 2 new flat panel TV's before christmas. A 42inch on a stand for the living room and a 37 inch on the wall in the kitchen/dining room. Both will be plasma and both will be Panasonic 37/42PV600's. Best Plasmas in their price range by all accounts. A bit over your budget staying within your budget means squat if you are not happy with the picture. I'll probably be getting my plasmas from this crowd in Germany. www.technikdirekt.de On one of the screens they are €1000 cheaper than DID Electrical!!

I have the 37" Toshiba WL66Z and I have to say I think its a great piece of kit! I'm not an expert but I see nothing wrong with the SD pictures. The quality of the picture depends on the channel you watch on SD. Watching the paramount channel is nothing compared to a BBC channel or sky sports (especially the cricket for some reason!?!). If you have or are planning to get, or have an XBOX 360 then the high def is worth it! For 1400 spuds you can't go wrong! Currently I have my XBOX 360 on component HD, my upscaling sammy on HDMI, and bog standard sky on scart and for the moment I am happy!!!

Thanks for the replies. I notice Panasonic Plasma has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio while the Toshiba LCD has a 1,000:1. What difference does this make?

That a great site! I notice the Toshiba 37WL66P is €1280 on that site. Probably a stupid question but does the P at the end make a difference?

technikdirekt has the following 37" LCD's:

    Philips 37PF7331 - €1574
    Philips 37PF7320 - €1490
    Philips 37PF5321 - €1336
    Philips 37PF5320 - €1469
    LG 37LC3R - €1574
    LG 37LC2R - €1269
    LG 37LB1R - €1539
    Toshiba 37WL58P - €1522
    Toshiba 37WL66P - €1280
    Toshiba 37WLG66P - €1444
    Samsung LE-37R72B - €1394
    Samsung LE-37S71B - €1310
    BenQ DV3750 - €1343
    Daewoo DLP-37D1 - €1286

If you had a choice between any one of those what would you go for? :)

I know I'm probably talking to myself at this stage ;) but the Samsung has a contrast ratio of 5000:1. This is by far and away the best CR I've seen from a 37" LCD in my price bracket. How is it so cheap?

    I have the philips 37PF5321 - €1336. It's a great lcd..pic is fantastic on it.
However it will only output HD via it's two HDMI ports. I have an xbox 360 which I bought in conjunciton with this but I'm not sure if it's outputting hd..the picture is fantastic and I've the xbox set for 1080i on the tv but because the tv only supports hd through the hdmi I'm not sure what quality I'm seeing..still a fantastic lcd though with good speakers

    I went for this Samsung:

I ordered it a couple of weeks ago but I'm still waiting for it to come into stock. They e-mailed me yesterday saying it'll be in stock within the next week. If you e-mail them they usually reply within an hour.

    hi guys
im thinking of the toshiba myself it seems to have good reviews but was wondering what the situation is with the warranty if something went wrong with tv buying from the german site

Most probably you will have to ship it back to them at your expense!!

Thats why I bought my pioneer from richersounds so I can drive up north with it if somethin goes wrong!!
