I got a ring when I got engaged, didn't wear it on the wedding finger but got it so I would be well used to wearing it before I put on the wedding one as I didn't ever wear a ring.

Now I always have it on and never leave it lying around, but the first couple of weeks I misplaced it a few times and if that happened with the wedding ring there would be trouble.

Its not expensive ring just a nice silver ring.

    Congrats.

No, it's not customary for the bloke to wear an engagement ring. However, many girls will buy the bloke a token gift.

    Awwww, congrats!
Got engaged a month and a half ago myself. I really wanted to get him an engagement present, but he wouldn't let me. I'm going to buy him a really nice watch this Christmas as a surprise though and I'm going to go to the jewellers where we got the ring.

Maybe you should go for a watch?

I need advice on nice watches actually...where would i post it?

A watch is a good call. Try the "Fashion / Appearance" forum maybe? (and congrats to you also :))

No, got engaged last year, didn't get a ring or any other gift (apart from acceptance of proposal, which is all I wanted!). I would say that if she wants to get you a ring and you don't mind wearing one then go for it!

I wear a celtic 'trinity knot' ring that is distinctly Christian and Irish and people have asked me if I got it for my engagement, truth is my fiancee got it for me years ago when we were only going out about a year or so. I wear it all the time and love it. Don't mind anyone who says it's weird for the guy to wear an engagement ring, I couldn't have cared less then or now...she said yes :) That's all that matters :)

Neither my husband or I bothered with an engagement ring, I got a laptop and he got an ipod.

If your girlfriend wants to get you a present how about getting you a really nice pair of cuflinks that you will wear on your wedding day.

Congratulations, I never heard of a man having an engagement ring. I didn't have one anyway.
