I just got BF2 recently, but whenever I try to load it now, the intro screen pops up, the screen goes black and I'm right back at my desktop...

I have a Radeon 1900XT 512mb with the latest Catalyst drivers...

Funnily enough... the game worked fine before I updated Catalyst...

Any help would be much appreciated

hey mate ive had so many problems with battlefield 2 that took a complete uninstall/reinstall of the game to sort out, its defo is one of the most erratic games to run but hell its worth it for the class gameplay

Can be a refresh prob sometimes.

Tried moving your "Battlefield 2" folder from F:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Battlefield 2 to somewhere else and then trying again?

    Wow, that worked Ponster :)

    Thanks for the replies.

Cool. Normally you don't have to move everything but I couldn't think of a proper answer :)

I think it's just the 'cache' folder that you need to delete actually....

TBH, I think all you had to do was delete the Video.con file in your profile, so when you start the game up, a new one would be created, but since one of the logo's popped up, I may be wrong.

I think that the video.con file is recreated before the logo pops up so it would have probably have done.

I got a lovely new LCD screen yesterday which BF2 didn't like and even managed to reboot my PC when trying to run it.

Found out that the Video.con files had a refresh rate that my monitor didn't support. There's two files, one in MyDocs\BF2\Profiles\Default\ and ...\0001\. Default seemed to be the one that made the difference.

Here's the line I had to change (from @72Hz):
    VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@60Hz

Well done ! Most people take weeks before they figure out that one :)

It's as though BF2 takes a snapshot of your hardware when you install and simple changes, such as the monitor, can result in CTDs and reboots.
