I.F. OUT terminal on Lidl Receiver

Hi,

The Comag SL65 receiver (from Lidl) has an IF out terminal beside the lnb IN termimal at the back of the receiver. Does anyone know what its for ? Its not mentioned in the manual as far as i can see.

Currently I'm taking the signal from one of the receivers Scart terminals through to the TV. Thought I could also take a second signal from the IF Out and feed it to another room in the house. (this would allow the selected channel on the receiver to be viewed in another room wouldn't it?).

Tried this yesterday using cable with f connector on one end and regular type co ax connector on the other but did not pick up any signal on the second TV (scanned a second time to make sure).

Then tried again with second TV on a short cable right beside receiver and again had no luck, so I can rule out a fault in the house's coax wiring as an issue.

Has anyone else tried this? and if so did it work?

The IF OUT is a loop through for the satellite signel (IF=Intermediate Frequency). You can connect another satellite receiver to this. I would guess that this signal is only there when your lidl sat receiver is switched off, i.e. you can only use one sat receiver at a time.

If you want to view your sat channels in another room, use the RF out socket.

Reading the manual I think that the available RF out on the receiver is for sound only.

I could use one of those wireless tv beamers as this can connect through the scart. Not an ideal solution - means more cables, electricity points etc.

Is there any simple way to take a signal from a scart and feed it via Co ax to other rooms in the house? A VCR with a scart input and RF output might do that - any other options?

I've never heard of an RF Output that was for audio only so I reckon that can't be right. Try connecting the cable that is coming from other room to it, see what happens.

Apart from using a VCR to distribute a signal from a Scart lead, there are Modulators that also do the job but cost as much as a VCR, sometimes more.

Ya, audio RF output only sounds strange but thats what manual says. Mentions using it to connect to digital radio.

I'll try it anyway to see if there is a video signal.

I don't have that receiver but I downloaded a copy of the manual from the website (Watty's post back in August) http://www.mysilvercrest.de/en/artikel.php?a=51&av=2

The SL65 does not have any RF out terminals, so you can't extend the output signal to another tv that way.

The audio output you mention is a digital coaxial feed (phono socket) to send a signal to a Dolby digital decoder. Not recommended to connect this to an ordinary analogue amplier input socket! There is also an optical socket so you can connect that instead to a Dolby digital decoder.

You could use the second SCART socket to feed a wireless AV sender to transmit the signal to another tv.

That's what's I've done. But have hollowcore first floor in house rather than floorboards. Good for soundproofing and fire prevention - not so good for AV sender transmission around the house. Picture is less than perfect.

So now I have the slightly ridiculous situation of having both the AV sender and the AV receiver beside the sat receiver in the sittingroom and then I'm passing the signal from the RF out on the AV receiver through the preinstalled wiring in the house.

google for an "AV RF modulator". This will take the audio/video signal from the SCART and modulate it onto an RF signal (usually UHF) which you can pipe around the house on your cabling. They are small devices (usually smaller than the AV sender) but the sound signal on the remote TV will be in mono and you lose the ability to control the satellite receiver like you can with the wireless AV senders.

The modulators are grand, but you'd be better off using a VCR, as VCR's are genarally got cheaper, plus it has another use!

In reply to the original question this output is provided for connecting an analogue reciever to so that you can watch any analogue channels that might still be transmitting on whatever satellite you are pointed at. It has no other purpose.
