    Downloading it as we speak.

Though I don't think I will have much use for the client stuff.

is the epg any good on this?

The EPG is grand (on the 0.97 version, can't imagine it changes much), I use XMLtv for the Radio Times listings.

Overall, it's not as polished as Media Portal, but it's also not as much of a memory hog.

how hard is the epg to setup?
is there a guide somewhere for setting up xmltv for ireland?

xmltv is not too hard to set up - it's all comamnd-line driven, so if you don't mind that, you are fine. It basically asks you what channels you want to add (one by one), including the Irish and UK channels. Once I got that sorted, I set up a scheduled task to run every day and output the details to a file. GB-PVR then picks up this xml file and loads it.

There is no Irish set up per se, it is a matter of picking the correct grabber (i.e. Radio Times) and confirming which channels you want (i.e. Irish).

How does the client/server system work ?

Does the server do most of the heavy lifting allowing you to get away with low end hardware as a client or is it more a case of acting as an extender for various features but still requiring a moderate/decent system to handle video decoding.

there is a xmltv gui now, it's a windows app that saves you having to use the command line to configure...set it up, then add it to schedualed task...dead handy..

    http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/

also, next release of mediaportal is supposed to have client/server feature...not ready yet...some thing i love about both these problems, some things i hate..the music section of gbpvr sucks..mediaportal kicks it's ass there..but mediaportal is buggy..and the forums aroe next to useless, the attitude up there is it runs fine on my pc so you must be the problem..

so i stick with mediaportal..but this has me thinking of changing back..if the nxt release of mediaportal comes without this feature i might change...again..

it uses streams\multiplexes the MPEG2 feed from the server, so if you dont go too nuts on post processing, you could run a fairly low end client.
