Ah yes I cant wait, having only had a new buggy for a week and sending the engine back ive had to wait in total about 5 weeks but the engine is BACK and im ready to fire it up again.

Would you guy agree to use heat cycling as a run in i was planning this.

Idle 1.5 tanks then try to see if it will take 1.4 throttle and start heat cycle just bringing temps up to 250 for 3 mins stop it leave to call at BDC then after a tank of 1/4 throttle do a tank using 1/2 throt bursts without exceeeding 250 for 3 mins and then 3/4 throt every 3 mins letting it cool at BDC. then full throt and cool every 3 mins at bdc.

I did run the first engine through just idle for 2 tank, 1/4 for 2 tank, 1/2 for 2 tank, full for 2 tank.

Theory with heat cycle is it naturally allows the heating up and cooling of the components more times as opposed to just running tanks. As its the expansion and contraction of the parts that plays alot in the wearing of the engine more so that just running tanks through.

Just out of interest, zt, what happened to the first engine ?
If you want run in tips go to coolwings site . Here :
    http://uk.geocities.com/norm_flyer/runnin-in.htm
He knows a lot about model engines and how to run them in.

ok so you read in a very brief nutshell I ran the engine in 11 tanks!!
I was keeping an eye on temp the whole way allowing to cool between tanks.

I had started tuning gave it a 100ft blast all well throttled down it stalled brought it back turned the needle a smidge back same 100ft run conked again then it was running fine was out running it with a mate a day or so later and it conked after a 100ft blast this was getting repetitive??
trying to start and it wouldnt went home anyway and tried the next day to start it not getting anywhere?? then the thing nearly snapped me wrist off??

Someone mentioned this was called Hydro locking. where it was flooded (maybe the air intake needle / low end was not set right? Hence not starting i Dunno.) Anyway that was it took it home took off the glow plug and eh voila I could see somet on top of the piston did a shake and out poped a lump (about 2mm / 2.5mm square) of metal and the flywheel wasnt budging! :( ready to RIP as the OFNA slogon on the boxes say :D

Well I swapped an email or 8 with OFNA techies and in the end they stated they dont cover under warranty unless within US, Canada so I stated a thing or 2 (legal type exclamations) in the email and got no reply. So I wrote to Tower Hobbies and their Customer Services Manager sent me a mail to send it on the OFNA and theyd fix it.

So here I am and the engine looks new i mean i cleaned it but this hasnt a mark on it??? I know the carb area where the needles are is brand span also heatsink etc

    So fair play to em!
    Gonna run in tomorrow :)

Thanks for the reply. Ill take a read of that info I dont want anything like that to happen again? whatever happened?
But it was running unreal!! before started tuning.

My only advice would be to do the run-in as per the manufacturer's instructions.

Well folks the weather was grand spent from 2:30 to 6pm running in the buggy!

    All well made some observations:
Used 1litre of Superglue on tyres :D
Has anyone used any rubber type adhesives?

I was impressed...this engine albeit the same type (Force .28) did not shed one shard of metal?? The previous engine after carefull running in had bits all up in the glow plug and exhaust?. But the glow plug still after running through with 10% nitro Odonnell looks shiny and new. Ill change to 16% and re tune to cope.
I couldnt get the temps above 18 deg Fahrenheit is that due to our climate??
I didnt want to push the engine and even on around the 8th tank giving full throttle bursts temps never exceeded 180?? odd it was running rich on all tanks as it was difficult sometimes to get momentum from stand still without stalling so I always let it warm up for a while.
I did the heat cycle method allowing to cool at BDC did this cooling stop half way through the tank as that was operating for about 4 mins.

I dont know weather to tune (e.g. reset all the way in the HSN) cos last time I started messing like that the engine took a trip.

Its sound really nice a 1/2 to full throttle but below it a little well groggy?
I made a tiny adjustment to the LSN for a little more air to enter.

But shes Idling and running at WOT great not stalling and starting with the tiniest blip of the shaft start! Im happy!

Ill try a get a vid to see if ye think shes runnin alright speed and sound wise.

Tallus did you take out the Hyper? You got one of those Hyper 8ports in it?

    Anyone else burn some today?
    Are those temps ok?

Didn't take her out in the end, weather was too crappy. It's a Hyper 7 TQ btw.
If it stays dry today I might take her out.

Down low its groggy as hell stalls if I try to pull away normally have to push with foot?

sounds like it might be running a bit rich bottom end.

Went out anyways for a look gave the LSN a smidge clockwise about 1/8 and bang its a rocket! Temps were now from 190 during runin to 230 at most and after changing to Odonnel 16% from 10% ran it again straight off they are now at 265 after figerous driving will richen it just a notch back to temps 250 I dont like to run it that hard temp wise not while still newish.

But its crisp as hell and scream and picks up well thank god!
Smokeis grand to. Thanks for yer help too.

Was runnin for a while after that found a spot believe it or not about 50 yards from the car park at work its up about 5 foot from the road some waist ground next to a running track and pitch its class! And what did I find! A lump of ply wood and a water container with stones = ramp :D

First time jumpin this thing jumps well allthough i wasnt jumping high!
had 3 WOT wipe outs no damage phew.
Happy out and outta fuel will need to take a trip to Galway the weekend for more.
