Rude, Ignorant And No Manners

    My Rant;

I went to the shop yesterday for my lunch with a few work colleagues. I bought myself a Roll and a Drink and went to the checkout. I was first in line and put my things down. The next minute this female Coloured person came up and stood right beside me and I mean she was nearly pushing me to one side. I turned around and looked at her and she stood there. The next thing she tried to barge past me, but i blocked her off, she started shouting at the bloke who was serving me, that she wanted change please, please and said it to me then. I turned around and said excuse me, i just want to pay for these 2 things and to that she said something like, no trouble please and shut up. I handed over my money and as the young bloke was getting my change she barraged up again and started shouting for change. I got very angry and told her in no uncertain terms to get back line and have some manners and a few other words which I won’t repeat. The bloke behind the counter looked a bit shocked, but the lady just walked off. I was standing at the door and she went back over and got her change.

I did not past any racist comments in case you think I did just some harsh words. I'm a very polite bloke and don’t normally lose it like this, but these people just annoy me, its not the first time. They don’t seem to have nay manners what so ever.

You refer to "These" people. I presume you mean humans in general.

Yes, you will always come across rude humans in life. Race does not come in to it.

White people can be rude or polite. Black people can be rude or polite. It is called personality.

All human beings have the potential to act in a polite manner or a rude manner.

So what? You had a run-in with a rude person.
If everyone were to relate our experiences with rude people (black or white) on boards it would be a really miserable negative bulletin board.

It was a coloured person? Ah, that explains it.

I was getting on the bus yesterday and an old man actually shoved my girlfriend aside roughly, nearly knocking her over, waving his pass like it was a special detectives badge ;)

Thing about these things is that for every rude person you meet, it sticks in your mind despite the fact that you've probably interacted with 20 lovely people prior to that.
Go back to Stormfront with your useless post...

Now, nobody slate me for being racist, because I'm not, but would anyone agree with me when I say that there seems to be a much larger ratio of black people here in Ireland that are rude? Maybe its the type of people that are coming here, but I've noticed - I deal with them everyday in work - there's a much higher ratio of rude people amongst them then you'd notice generally day to day. Just my observation....of course then are plenty of nice ones too, I'm not saying they're all rude or anything of the sort.

And I'm talking about the black people here in Ireland obviously, not black people in general, before I'm told to "go back to stormfront" :)

I guess they only send us the rude ones. I think they have a double check, with a rude test at the point where they exit their native country and another one on entry here. They have really toned down the loveliness of us Irish, noone says Cead Mile failte to me on O'Connell Street any more...

Seeing as she nearly pushed you, could you not extend your generalisation to say that all coloured people are violent?

maybe the rude ones are 'sent' to ireland, fromtheir own lovely lands, as a punishment.

i would certainly see living in ireland as hard time.

Nobody pushed me. I think you're confused.

See this is what annoys me, some people are so valiantly PC about certain issues. All I said was that there seemed to be a higher ratio of rude people, not that they were all rude, so it was hardly a "generalisation" I made, just a comment on my personal observations. And I work with them on a daily basis so I feel its ok for me to make a comment. It seems so impossible these days to make a passing statement without someone jumping on anything thats remotely negative and condemning it as racism.

I totally agree. You can't expect to go through life whithout coming across rude or annoying people or awkward situations. It's just life. But in your story, yes, that would be annoying but seriously, its not that bad, and as Enii said, thats not being racist.

If a woman came up to me in a queue and starting pleading for change (your post suggests she said 'please' at least three times) I would assume that there was some problem and would certainly leave her go first, unless my sandwich and drink were very very very important things in my life. I would consider it only good manners, after all the sandwich and drink can wait and she may have something pressing. Was the best before end running out on your roll or something?

I can't argue the merits of that particular case obviously not being there....I was unsure if you were directing comments at me, you quoted me, but seemd to be talking to the OP..?

Anyway, surely if it was urgent she could have explained as such. I personally wouldn't accept someone rudely trying to cut into the line with "please" as their only explantion.

Just seems like a rude person, no more, no less. :)

No, the OP. He says that she said 'please' a few times and suggested he was only getting a roll and drink.

The problem is one of recognition, if a white person is rude to you then you file it as that guy is an asshole, if its a black person who is rude to you then you file it as that BLACK guy was an asshole. its not racist, because they are different to you they stick in your mind more. i have to deal with people all day long rude/nice/indifferent. luckily im on the end of a phone and dont have to deal with skin color. but i hate cork people the most.

There is nothing more annoying than queue cutters, particularly at lunchtime.

However, if the person was trying to speak to someone because she was short-changed then I would yield.

Perhaps the OP could clarify that? I'm unsure from the reading if the person who annoyed them was trying to speak to the person at the till or if they were begging.

You're right. Only yesterday I disarmed a nuclear bomb with a 20 cent coin. You'd be suprised what you can with some change in an emergency. Pay the parking meter perhaps? Phew! Crisis over!

Fair play to you. Was it a a fake emergency like the Cuban Missile Crisis, or a really big 'Oh my God I will spend 5 seconds more buying my roll' emergencies?

Hypothetically, would you be more understanding, say, if she had left a child in a car and needed to get change quickly? A lot of non-nationals don't have au pairs or SUVs with alarm systems and air con...

I think its a fair comment but its kinda tarring all black people with the same brush, i've met black people from South Africa & brazil, very friendly etc however its a well known fact that nigerians have a bad rep.
Ever notice how no-one has ever met a rude chinese person?? Lots of chinese here but you never here a bad word, differant cultures i suppose!

Hmmmm. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You need to focus on the thread title.

    L.K.

P.S. In your hypothetical situation. Whos responsible for the daunting task of having change in the first place? Otherwise I would have politely asked permission to skip the person in the queue first.

Maybe she should have written a polite but firm letter to everyone in the queue stressing any possible urgency in her situation and explaining why her situation was more pressing than someone buying a roll...

Of course a 'please' from her would have been nice, but so would letting a possibly distressed woman go ahead in a queue from the OP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 452 ✭✭LeperKing

Who said they're was a distressed woman? Show me a distressed woman and I'll gladly step aside. The OP has NOT described a distressed woman.

Conor74, this is my last contribution to this thread. I made my point as clear as possible without using hand puppets. You can go ahead and let people skip you in a queue unnecessarily, but I hope you don't complain about it.

that's all it is. different cultures.
nigerians are, by and large, rude and obnoxious. chinese people are pleasant.
i know quite a few people from both countries and they are as described.

ok, a few people don't represent everyone form their respected countries, but when they are a minority in a foreign land, they give thast impression.

I would have to say i agree with that post, call it racist whatever but to me it's a fact, thats what I see. Being of Russian origin I also see that alot of the Russian people here are rude and arrogant, I bet someone will call me a Racsit for that one :D

If the lady had said excuse could i get some change please, then maybe i would have let her go ahead. The fact she barged up in front and tried to push past me without asking was what really annoyed me the most. When i said to her i would only be a minute she backed off, but as soon the the till was open she barged back up front again and pushed past me. I just find most people are bloody rude now a days no matter what colour there skin may be. But i do find most coloured people to be the most ignorant of all and thats my view.

can't say i know any russians, but you would probably be on the look out for your fellow countrymen and would notice their behaviour more than others.
cork poeople are cnuts. i base this on the fact that the guy at the end of the road is from cork and wakes me up at 4.30 every morning by revving the crap out of his car.
