Anybody here know any? When I was in college I knew a girl who didn't wash. She was perfectly nice in every other regard and was a high acheiver academically but she was into the whole new-age hippy thing and didn't wash.

She reeked. Sitting in her company would bring tears to your eyes. I can't understand this at all. Even if I was living in a cave I would wash myself, both for my own comfort and hygiene and for those around me.

Do these people realise how much they smell and just ignore it or are they unaware of just how bad it is? Does the fact that nobody ever comes within two yards of them not give them a clue or is that the whole idea?

The girl I knew was lovely, really sound and would have been a cracker if she scrubbed up...I never did mention any of this to her as she was too smart not to realise it and I had no wish to upset her, but christ! What's it all about?

I find people often misunderstand smelling with cleaness. I have an alergy to many perfumes and perfume based products. I hence don't use smelly stuffs. I know people who are stink and think this makes them smell clean. I can tell where people have been in work up to an hour later. I can smell people before I open the door. THe alergy is mostly skin contact so it isn't like I have a reaction to the smell. I prefer natural odours and different people smell different. Here and the UK we smell like sour milk I find. I still prefer it to any Lynx product.

Shes a hippy so I could guess she thinks in her head....don't waste water its not good for the enviornment:rolleyes: Just tell her the smell is putting a hole in the ozon layer, then she might see through.

A really good mate of mine is TORMENTED by her housemate's smelly feet! She's a girl, and to all intents and purposes takes pride in her appearance but lo and behold her feet smell like rotting dog food and this ominous odour pervades her room. My mate has broached the subject on a number of occasions but she simply says that her sinuses are blocked and she can't smell them!!!  It's horrific!!!! No excuse whatsoever for it imo

I have a friend that only washed about once a month, well it smelled like that anyway. She walked around in her feet ALL of the time, she'd even walk down her road in her feet, they'd be black with dirt. She had fairly long hair and it would be so greasy it would stick to her head and look all stringy. She wasn't a fan of shaving her legs or her arm pits either so they'd be pretty hairy. I mentioned it to my mam who said she would tell her mam (dirty girl) as they were friends. Well she was literally dragged into the bathroom to have a wash on more than one occasion. I have to say she's improved since then anyway.

Oh oh just came to my head now, her mam once told us that when she was a baby she was very fond of eating her own crap and rubbing it all over her. She was being deadly serious about it and everything. The girl gets pissed off everytime we bring it up

A lot of people don't like synthetic anti-perspirants due to the high levels of aluminum and zinc in them (which in women has been linked to breast cancer). When you use deodorant you are literally plugging your sweat glands with these minerals. Now I use hygeine products but it has to be non-scented and sometimes I will only use a deodorant and not an anti-perspirant. It's not like the weather gets so hot here that I will be sweating like a pig.

My father never wears deodorant or anti-perspirant. He says he "smells like a man". Yes, I would shriek everytime he came near me (especially as we lived in California with summer temps of 40-45 degress) but he did shower and use soap. So I think I could excuse someone who maybe had "fresh" stink, like one day, but just not showering is laziness.

I though this thread was about people who don't like Eastenders and Fair City...

I lived with a guy who did not shower or brush his teeth for months. I put a little fluff in the top of his toothpaste and it was still there months later.

    Yuck :(

I shower daily, but sometimes do not use soap because I have super sensitive skin that breaks out and itches if I use anything synthetic. The soap I do use is a natural handmade soap with no artificial scents, colours, etc.

I use a Natural Deodorant Stone instead of an anti-perspirant, as cancer of all types run in my family and I'm not too keen on getting it. Sweating is the body's way of detoxing, and is healthy and good for you. Anti-perspirants, which block the sweat glands, don't allow your body to get rid of the poisons it has built up, causing the body to become toxic. The stone works fairly well but works much better on my husband (he never had to wear any deodorant until he moved to Florida with me).

I wash my hair with an SLS-free shampoo, but am very interested in going 'poo free sometime in the future.

Teeth are brushed every day with a natural flouride-free toothpaste.

I am, by no means, smelly, but many call me a hippy. Personally, I abhor the term; it's too broad a stereotype to be limited to one specific category of people.

When I was in secondary school the girl that sat next to me never showered or brushed her hair. It was hell having to sit next to her. For her Leaving Cert Art project she used chalk which got all over her uniform and this was still there after two weeks which means she didn't even bother washing her clothing for two whole weeks maybe it has been more in the past who knows.

As a regular bus user I have to put up with the bodily stench of random strangers that get on. It's that horrible, unbearable smell. I think it's worse when a woman has poor hygiene for obvious reasons. When someone has poor hygiene it's a lack of respect for not only the others around them but more importantly themselves.

no one's saying that if you don't use soap you'll smell, god no.

there's a huge difference between a smelly person and a person who showers daily.

that being said there's a lady that always hangs around bray dart station in kind of hippish clothes and my god you'd swear she never saw water.

My flat mate is a very sophisticated looking girl and is quite a head turner but she has no sense of smell. As a result of her olfactive deficiency she has no idea that her bedroom absolutely reeks like a mixture of animal feed, ammonia and mustiness.

You've all been brainwashed by the hygene industry!!! :)

Oh and personally, I think there's a huge difference between a smell of sweat (which is fine) and a stench of it. The idea that a person should always smell like roses/whatever is laugable tbh.

    Totally agree.

In my school we are right next to a girls school(same grounds) and consequently are mixed for certain classes when we reach 5th year(which I've just finished). The girl always tend to remark that the boys' classrooms are smelly, which is fair enough(mainly attributed to dumbass guys with no hygeine knowledge, guys who over-exerted themselves playing football at lunch time and scumbags who can't seem to understand the concept of putting rubbish in a bin) , but I remember the first time I went into a girls' classroom I nearly had to be sick. The stench of artificial chemicals all mixed together was awful. Perfume, deodorant, anti-perspiant, body spray, moisturiser etc. horrible tbh.

Yes, I know what you mean!! I hate the smell of "girl" -- that plastic fake floral scent that invades the nostrils and literally chokes you. Yuck.

I've been told I smell "herby"...wasn't sure whether to take that as a compliment or not, lol. :p

i personally love smelling nice, and maybe a bit girly too :)

i shower daily w/ a non-scented soap but i do wear perfume. i'm pretty sure it smells great because a)i think it does, b)people have complimented me on it before. i like my scent!

i think the key here is moderation. less is more in this case and i adopt that policy because even though i like wearing perfume i don't think that i need to cloud up a hallway, the lift, my office, etc. w/ it. it's enough for me to know i've it on and for anyone close enough to catch that *subtle* whiff.

Nina, you are definitley an exception, as most girls don't seem to believe in moderation, and instead seem to like to bathe in artificial scents.

Now, I like scents, too. I absolutley love aromatherapy, and own quite a few essential oil based roll-ons. I simply can't handle the smell of many overly-fragrant scents that seem to be wafting around every female I come into contact with. The smells give me headaches. :(

Yes, you're definitely right about alot of women/girls that don't acknowledge "moderation". Being someone who loves scent, it is a reminder to myself everytime i walk through that *cloud* of perfume, that i do NOT want to be *that* person!! :)

i know alot of ppl who are allergic to perfume and can't wear it so i can appreciate how it might affect someone in that position!

Yep...subtlety is the thing...it's always nice to walk past a woman and to get just a hint of her perfume...the same rules apply with makeup, I often see girls who would be really pretty if they stopped using a trowel to put on their makeup, but as it is, they just look like they're trying too hard...

I actually got in an argument with my boss at work over the overly-smelling "nice". I work in an open floor plan office and therefore many people sit in a large room. I find that alot of people find it totally acceptable to spray perfume/deodorant/etc onto themselves (and in the air) at their desks!

I have a really strong reaction to strong smells. My sinuses immediately swell up and I feel like I am going to be sick. I don't mind "natural" smells (vanilla, orange, etc) but perfumes and artificial smells (or lilies go figure) make my head hurt! So this girl sitting a few desks from me sprays her perfume on herself at her desk and within minutes I feel like I can't breathe and my face hurts. I ask my boss if she can just ask people to refrain from spraying it at their desks, maybe go into the loo if they feel they must "top" up their scent and she told me that it was their workplace too and they had this right if they wanted to.

So I said rather flippantly, "Well to me it smells like dog crap and I don't come in here smothered in that and make you guys smell it because to me it's the same thing". I didn't get a response to that one :D

Fresh body smells I can deal with...in fact I quite like the musky smell of a sweaty man ;) - it's when it becomes stale that it starts to smell....badly....a shower every day, with or without soap, is going to ensure your smells do not get stale and sour....

I know people with persperation problems and they have no BO issue as they wash...plain & simple...:)
