Just wondered what particular everyday phrases used by people do you dislike. I'm not talking about Management-speak like "pushing hte envelope" and "thinking outside the box". More like the phrases below.

    Examples:

    "In anyways..."
"I took it off of him"

Personally, I can't stand these ones but what about everyone else?

I particularly dislike the use of 'but' at the end of a sentence.

EG: "Yeah, I was up at 12 but."

When in london, and girls say "Am I bovvered?!"

It's almost like Graham Taylor's "Do I Not Like That!"... It's just nonsense.

There's probably loads more but that one springs to mind...

People who say "right" all the time. Or "roish" which is worse. Or like people who like say like after every like word. Like.

    Grrrr.

Well I live in America, so for me, it would have to be:

    "Anyways..."

    "Whatever!"

and the one I hate the most,

"Like..." as in "The other day, I like, saw a pidgeon, and it like, totally crapped on this lady's head, and it was like, hilarious."

Argh. I can't stand it when people talk like that and use those expressions! Drives me nuts. :p

I hate it when people say at the end of a sentence

"....do you know that kind of way?"

    as in

"I bet she thought it was the right thing to do, do you know that kind of way?"

I hate it when people, particularly other girls add "chick" or "babes" or "chicatee" etc.. onto a sentence when talking to me, its so patronising  My sister does it and I don't mind that cause she's my sister but girls who hardly know each other using it really bugs me...

    Something similar:
    People ending sentances with "Wha'?"

"I bet she thought it was the right thing to do, wha'?"

Pighead, shouldn't that be "Get your stinking trotters off me"? ;)

I hate it when people ask me stupid questions that shouldn't be asked like, "why do you smoke rollies and not proper cigarettes?" and "how much money are you on up there?"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

My list could go on forever here, but "whatever" and "who'd a thunk it" are some at the top of the list.

People in work spewing managementy-bull**** phrases like :

    'going forward.....'
    'timeline'
    'think outside the box....'
'all reading off the same page'

especially when the boss is within earshot. Sycophantic f***ing maggots.

Oh ho ho that's so annoying. Last saturday I got a cab home and the cab driver was playing Celine Dion and he KEPT on saying ''do ya know that sort of thing'' I wanted to just get out and walk home

    Another one

''So I says to Maura, Maura I says.....''

YOU ONLY HAVE TO SAY IT ONCE

"um, sorta like, at the end of the day..."

Most footballers then. Oh, and don't forget that wordsmith Ian Wight...

When you ask somebody how they are and they say 'Not three bad'. I equally can't stand it when they say 'Not the maywest'....

There's a girl in work who says 'actually' all the time and it makes me want to scream.....' I actually didn't go out the other night, I was actually really tired, actually'....

Not sure why it annoys me but when people say 'take it from me...' or 'trust me', makes me instantly not trust them.

I agree with girls who barely know you calling you 'babe'...Aaaarrgghhh!!!

    "basically" is another

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Squall

Living and working in Boston for the last few months... I have a complete hatred for the saying

    "touch base..."

"Ya sure that sounds great... well touch base on that later on"....

Ya buddy I have a base you can touch right here

Ohh and another one .... talk to that. As in if theres a problem or something someone says oh I can talk to that...... no you cant its not a sentient being or even an innanimate object at that.

    Buzzwords.... they make me sick

    Especially with an American accent

    I hate that word

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Defin-ite-ly is pretty annoying... isn't it Buffybot?

    ha...

The use of the word 'tetchy' makes me very tetchy indeed!

Oh... and I dislike being referred to as sweetheart... it's usually by female managers in restaurants and the occasional confused male bus driver.

a girl in a customer site used to call me 'kitten' any time I talked to her on the phone, as in she'd say, "ok kitten", when finishing up the call.

Funnily enough, it never really annoyed me until the time I had to go on site and discovered she was a boot.
