    have a 400 watt psu will it cope with a duel core opteron and a x1800xt?

    is running grand with the opteron now want to add an x1800xt in.

    would i need more?

    You might be able to run it, but then your psu would be running at full load. Which is not something you would be wanting to do.

    500watts from a reputable maker would be allright.

    It matters *A LOT* on what brand 400watt you're running. You might get along well enough or the thing might just go kaboom.

    would not call it brand name picked it up for 20 squid in maplin a year ago:D

    Then I would definately buy a new one.

    Tagan,OCZ,Antec,Seasonic,Fortron,Coolermaster,Hiper.

    They're all pretty decent, get one over 400watts and you're set.

    Should be fine but your on the low end. Although that being said when Ocz say 450 watts they mean it.

    bought a 580 watt hipper modular psu for 99 euro

    pc world galway cheaper than overclockers and komplett:D

    Yeah the Hiper 580 in PC World is an absolute steal.
