i think you would get a better answer on this over in personal issues.

its not exactly a personal issues thread and would likely get locked.
for lack of a clubbing/dating forum after hours is the best place.

It's what you make out of it. Go realaxed and half-hearted and you'll have a bit of craic. You might meet a few women you don't like but hey - you only have to talk to them for five minutes.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    I went speed dating once.

It was an interesting, though slightly bizarre experience, with 300 people in the same room all there to date.

Experiences are personal and I don't really like the phrase meat market; and I think anyone viewing the world that way is depressing to start with.

I might go again, though not because I view it as a serious way to meet someone special (women are everywhere and you're more likely to meet a kindred spirit doing something you really like), but more because it was possible to have fun, and it reminds me to make short conversations more interesting.

    When the same questions:
    - What do you do?
    - How old are you?
    - Where are you from?

Etc are asked, it gets repetitive, so if you innovate, you get a good opportunity to be more creative..

"I'm not from anywhere, I was born on the ship on the sea exactly between three national boundaries, so I suppose you could say I'm from the ocean..."

    A few observations:

    - Depending on where you sit, you get to talk to a limited range of girls, albeit for 3 minutes each. People were crammed together. You could clearly hear the conversations of the people next to you.

    - I think it's a good way to meet people if you are in a new city with few friends.

    - The only categorisation of people is that they are all within a broad age range, so you get to meet girls of all types from all walks of life.

    - The speed-dates I had didn't lead to any dates, though I'm rather picky, although we did get the phone number of two girls, who we didn't call.

I think if you want to pull, a remarkable number of people who went to the nightclub afterwards seemed to get together.

A friend of mine asked me to go along with him recently but I declined... no need for it right now!

I might consider it for a laugh though although I hear they can be a bit of a rip-off.

Most of the girls only seem to go in large groups for a laugh and don't take it in anyway serious. And they all tend to sit next to each other... so you get about 4 or 5 girls in a row who all know each other and work in the same place and one is as boring as the next.

Anyway... I really don't need to pay good money to be rejected 30 times in one evening.

I would rather be rejected immediately than 10 days later after wasting an evening with some young wan.
