The discovery of the electron is certainly up there :D ...if that's what you mean

Getting the figs in the fig rolls... amazing.
Or failing that, the whole aviation and going into space thing.
Though I think most of these historical landmarks are culminations of a million tiny achievements before it... so, meh... the figrolls thing doesn't sound so bad.

A colleague of mine believes man never went into space or landed on the moon.

    I'd say splitting the Atom,
    The development of supersonic travel

I don't really think Fire can be classed as a human achievement... I'd more say the wheel, electricity, microchip etc.

But what about achievements by one single person?

    Greatest Human Achievement?
Sex of course, nothing was the same since ;)

Eh, how can electricity be classed as a human achievement and fire can't? Both are discoveries rather than achievements.

A lot people believe that no one landed on the moon, there is some theories about that, yes :)

I would go for sliced bread. Where would I be without toast? :(

    Seriously though, air travel ftw.

Electricity can be harnessed for an incredible multitide of uses. Fire was simply recreated, but I see where you are coming from

But the ability to create fire on demand is surely an important achievement that then enables you to cook your freshly caught mammoth.

Newton working out the principles. Einstein ironing out the kinks in them. Has been fundamental to our understanding of the world and the universe.

Medical breakthroughs, like Salk's vaccine for polio, Fleming and penicillin, Jenner and the smallpox vaccine etc. etc.

It's not that great... he was able to come right back afterwards.

You might as well say it's great when Pac-man gave his life.

I think managing to evolve our brains enough to be able to claim that we own the planet, and can do anything we want to it and all of its residents. Although that makes me sound like a hippy.

In the context of the chap above, who I honestly hope was joking, probably the bible. It's a book, yet it makes people give up their lives, and take other people's, all based on nothing but the book.

But we do. They may be smart enough but I have yet to see a dolphin or a chimp with title deeds. An until they get 'em, they're on OUR property and I'm reaching for a gun...;)
