Bad Grammar on boards....

    Whats wrong with this:
    I was walking down the street when their in the middle of the road i noticed a bunch of people standing. There faces were in shock they where looking up. So i looked up myself and their standing on the roof of a building was someone who was abut to jump. I thought to myself were are the police?


    OK what is wrong with what i just wrote off the top of my head?
    And is it just laziness or lack of education that leads so many people posting on boards to use the wrong grammar?

    I do NOT mean typos (probably have some in thuis post myself!) and i do not even mean someone who is not the best speller. I mean using "There" when they clearly mean "Their" etc etc.

    Clearly im bored.. better go do some work :D

    Well it's not taught properly in any schools I've been to. Even if you gave no more than a cursory glance to any group of English pieces, you'd find loads of grammatical errors.

    Whether it's laziness of a lack of education, I wouldn't be too sure.

    I can't see why so many people on here get so hung up on other peoples grammer. If someone uses bad grammer and it annoys you then don't read their posts.

    @OT: used 'their' in place of 'there' twice, and 'were' instead of 'where'.

    I think they should just replace 'there', 'their', and 'they're' with 'der' and be done with it.

    there is a certain poster on here that goes by an alias of a rapper, and he posts on every and any thread he can, more often than not its usually pointless drivel, but i find it agitating to read anything he writes! gets on my nerves for some reason !!

    i think his example was supposed to be showing the kind of gramatical errors that upset him, he typed it incorrectly on purpose.

    Oh who cares!

    I only found out last Saturday when exactly one is supposed to put an apostrophe before an s and when one puts it after. I thought this acquired knowledge would be the beginning of a exciting new grammatical era for me. However my life hasn't felt significantly richer since I'm sorry to report.

    Try saying it in your mind as you write. If you take a pause, put in a comma. There are a lot of other things that are just common sense and will get better the more you read and write.

    Eats shoots and leaves tbh.

    Grammar on boards is mostly fine, with a few noticeable exceptions. It's nothing to get worked up about though.

    Bad grammar does not get me too annoyed, too much txtspeak is very annoying and lack of full stops when trying to make out a thread :)
