anyone else feel embarrassed using small change (like 10's 5's) in a shop?

I got 20 Marlboro lights t'other day with 10's and 20's in a shop and felt like a right k-nob.

    oh come on payday!!

I used to work in a shop, that annoyed me most of the time but sometimes I'd be in the mood for it and enjoy counting it out.

That reminds me, I'm broke and out of fags too :(

I was good enough to put it in piles of €1 for her....

wouldn't say i feel embarassed but if i have a nice big coin i'll use that instead. i empty out all the crap change on the bus. the amount of times i've said "€1.55 please" and gotten a ticket that says $0.95 or €1.35 annoys me

Dont be embarrassed! Most busy shops are crying out for change as they often run out quickly. Anyway its all legal tender.... [or have you been using monopoly money:p]

I worry that I won't have enough or that I won't count it out correctly so I just use notes. I get rid of my coinage in a vending machine in work.

Don't be ashamed of your change! I used to hate going into shops with a handful of coppers, but then I actually worked in one for a while and realised it's actually not that big a deal, it was great to have the change for the till and as long as it wasn't just splashed out on the counter, it was easy enough to count.:)

I used to care about it but not anymore the least day i got a pizza with 10 quid of small change, the pizza guy wasnt too hapy but at the end of the day **** him , im broke so im gonna use all the money i have, its a handy way to get rid of change anyway.

I always get paranoid though no matter how many times i count my change that ive counted it wrong and that ill come up short, i often find myself counting my change 4 or 5 times whilest in the que, Wierd i know but im what youd call a paranoid person.

I save all my change in a big bottle. I have 600 quid at the mo and by the end of the year I will have over a 2 grand....coolo!

As regards small change in a shop, I don't mind recieving it but sometimes its annoying if there's a long queue because I have to count it all while I get daggers from impatient people who want to be served. I normally don't give loadsa change in a shop coz I'm like Patricide, I'm always afraid I've counted it wrong!

I've loadsa change in a massive vodka bottle. It's not even half full yet. So I don't know whether to take out the change now and spend it or wait till its full? Would the bank change it for me into notes or not?

The worst part is having to stand there while the count it!! Specially if there's other people waiting!!!! :o

Yes, go in and get money bags from them and sort it first though. They'd probably not accept it in a vodka bottle.

I can't stand any of the small stuff (10c or under) in my purse. They are fiddly and annoying :/ Thankfully there is one of these in my local supervalu. There is a small charge, but I'm not one for bank Q's either. :)

I've often paid for a pint in my local with 10's and some 5's. They give to me over the weekend when I'm handing them notes so I'm just giving it back to them. Feck it. Better than having a mountain of it at home.

I love giving it too the self service tills in tesco while people behind me try to bore holes in my back with their Eyes of Penetrating Doom.

As lomg as you pay for what you buy, and aren't a huge nuisance for the cashier, who cares?

Having worked in a shop though, accepting change was never an issue, except when people tipped it out all over the counter and held up already long queues - hated that. :(

I wouldn't pay over the counter with small change (although I have no qualms using 1c 2c etc on a bus fare purely to get rid of them).

I think when it gets to the stage where you're paying for smokes with copper then you might have to reconsider your budgeting mechanisms.

I take it your not a smoker then...

I normally keep it for the bus. I hate giving the extra 5c.

On a side note, does anyone else here think that 1c and 2c coins are absolutely pointless?!

The self-service point in Tesco is where most of my change goes. Great way of getting rid of change from the night before! :)

Council Regulation (EC) No 974/98 of 3 May 1998 on the introduction of the euro stipulates that within the euro area no party other than the issuing authority and persons specifically named in national legislation is obliged to accept more than 50 coins in any single payment transaction. The regulation does not specify a value.

    notes all the way :D

advantages: faster, lighter, make you look richer

i dont use ANY coins anymore, just hurl them into my coin sorter and dump them in bags, then drag them to the bank every few months and get about €300 back!!

it's like getting €300 for nothing cuz you forget about all that change youve saved. great way of saving imo.
