What's your background? Any work experience?

There's a few starter courses here in the likes of Crumlin that can lead to a place in a UK uni for a degree. Of course it's more than just education - retail experience is, IMO, a must have and a flair for fashion - being a fashion sheep won't cut it - remember buyers basically decide on the trends.

If we get more info we might be able to help.

I was talkin to a girl recently who got a job as a buyer for a big company. There seems to be 2 ways to get into it. One is to have a degree.. not nessacarily in buying but some type of business degree or social science. Or work your way up in a company. And having lots of retailing experience is a must as well.

Seems like a really good career path that's exciting and pays well. Good Luck!

Very hard to get into though, i'd say have a look at courses that have placements, check that you're up to it. Retail experience, as said, if a must but not neccesarily in sales. Visual merchandising lets you show your artistic side and may open doors.

My wife's friend was a fashion buyer for QVC (www.qvc.com - one of the shopping channels in the States). She had a degree in fashion design, and bascially worked her way up to being a buyer.

I'd say its the kind of career where there is a lot of luck involved, but if it is what you really want to do, then go for it.
