Boards Weekly Soccer Game

    Hi,
I've been trying to get some names on a thread in the Soccer Forum for a weekly boards game. There's a few names so far but I thought I'd post here too since the Soccer Forum is not an open forum for all users to post in.

As I've said in the other forum, this will be a friendly game with no high level of skill. A game for fun and fitness. I'm looking to get a list of names of people who will definitely be there. I don't want to make a list of maybes. So if you don't care if it's raining or snowing, you wont be too lazy, you'll play even if hungover, you wont be watching the big game or seeing your partner etc and want a fun and healthy way to spend your Saturdays, just put your name down.

It looks like Bushy Park (Terenure area, see attached map) is the choice of venue so far and 15:00 every Saturday will be the time and day.

This is open to people of all size/age/shape/gender/nationality/hair colour etc and even if you can't put your name down as a definite and it gets going as a weekly event, turn up at the time alone or with friends and you can join in. The more the merrier:)

Please only put your name down if you will definitely be able to make it as if the first one doesn't work out, it will be very hard to get it going again. I wont be able to make it this Saturday (11-02-2006) but will be able to make it pretty much every other Saturday throughout the year.

I would like for this to be a competitive yet friendly game. That means nobody having conversations and disrupting the game on the pitch, that you will give it your all but it also means that it's for the fun of it too. If somebody makes a mistake, laugh instead of moaning:)

I'll keep this as the main thread for discussion on the game as the Soccer Forum is not open to all members.

So if you're a definite, please stick your name down and hopefully we'll be able to get a game together.

    Names so far:
    Cormie
    Kearnsr
    Roddy23
    Hippo
    Stekelly
    Spider_Baby!
    kellxor.1337

You can get the 15, 15B, 65, 65B and the 49 to Bushy park from the city center. If you are coming from town, you get off the bus either two or three stops after Terenure village either before you come to the big green area on your left hand side and a Terenure College on the right, or the stop after that.

Edited the above post. Basically it's the first park on the left once you pass Terenure village. You really can't miss it.

It depends what time and bus. On weekdays it takes about an hour at peak times. Other times with light or no traffic it takes 15 minutes.

would it be a boots and shinguards affair?

will it be a load of heart-attack candidates stumbling round a field and stopping for fag breaks?

You can stick my name on that list cormie
Although would the astro in tallaght not de better? only need ten for that and it's a proper setup? ie goals with nets n stuff

definitely, its competitive right? just not the fa cup final, just a laugh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,863 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Ok, looks like there's split views on location, half want Bushy Park and half want Phoenix, either is fine with me, I'd even go from one straight to the other if they were on after eachother;)

Bring boots and shinguards if you have them, playing in jeans and your good runners wont do you any favours:o

I prefer playing in a park to Astro myself, I'm not sure what the other users views are but with Astro we would have to book and pay too:(

nope, just to keep fit and have fun;)

Ok, I've created a blog specifically for users to comment with their preferred Venue/Day/Time.

In order to be able to comment on it, simply click here select the "bloggers" group and then click "join group". You will then need to go my blog page, here (you may need to log in again) and simply comment only (please keep discussion on this thread:)) with your preferred Venue/Day/Time if you are definitely going to turn up.

Crap now i have to go and buy a pair of boots :( , Phoneix park would suit me fine, I live on conyingham rd, But Bushy park is easy enough to get to, the busses are pretty good timewise on the saturday,"The 15's are ****e" Do ya think it would be a good idea if everyone who was gonna go Copy and paste the list of names and then add there name onto it? Just a thought,

I reckon the Phoneix Park would be the best bet. But both places are cool.

But which ever we pick we need to pick a place to meet up so every one know where we are going.

I got a pair of boots in Lidl for €12:D

If you follow the instructions in post #19 of this thread, it's the best way I can think of to get a proper list of names.

    seems so far we have:

    Cormie (not this saturday:()
    Kearnsr
    Roddy23
    Hippo
    Stekelly
    Spider_Baby!
    kellxor.1337
    Tusky
    El rabitos
    Onkle51

however all of the above are not agreeing to the same location.

What's the best way to sort this out:o

Well i think Pheno, Not just cause i live there, But because the luas stops a few mins away from it, We can all meet by heuston station or sumtin, But were gonna need more ppl this saturday if were gonna have a match, I'd still enjoy a kickabout eitherway, I'll be in the park on saturday anyway, I'm teaching my friend how to Firebreath, Hopefully he'll listen this time and not loose his eyelashes :)

Sounds like we have a half time show lined up as well.

If me meet at the Papal Cross the pitches are right beside there.

Any one for a game of 3 and in if the numbers are low?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,863 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Ok Ciaran76 said he'll play in Phoenix too.

Is Papal cross the massive monument? I've seen people playing there before. Would be handier to meet at the pitch rather than Hueston as it's at least a 5 minute walk and we could have a kick about while waiting for latecomers:)

Looks like Phoenix is taking 1st choice anyway.

The Papal cross looks like a cross and white and made of metal I think but I think the Wellington monument is the stone one at the bottom of the park closer to Park Gate street.

Sorry if I am confusing matters here.:o
