I have noticed that RTE fills the screen using SKy digital on my widescreen TV. Recently I had to use terestial Tv to view RTE on the same TV and noticed that i have the letter box effect at the top and bottom. Why is this?

because on Sky RTÉ broadcast in 16:9

terrestrially they broadcast in 14:9, hence the black bars top and bottom
