Is RnB dead?

    This forum seems to be least used of all music forums. Why is that? Is Soul and Funk and RnB dead or is there just not enough soul-lovers within the Irish majority of people?

    I think it is fair to say that there is only a handful of musicians left who are still doing Soul.

    It is a pity to see this kind of music vanish.:(

    there is just no r&b or soulvenues in dublin. thats the problem, all we have are these rappers coming over now and again to play the point.

    however John Legend has soul and he played in vicar street but unfortunately i missed it!

    I tink there is no live performance market but there is still a market

    Soul, Funk and R'n'B are 3 completely different styles of music and why they're always bundled together is beyond me.

    For example, they said Bob Dylan was "RnB" (Rhythm n Blues) and they also classify Justin Timberlake as "RnB". Go figure. :rolleyes:

    It should be labeled "specialist music" which would be slightly more accurate.

    In a BEE GEES documentary I heard Barry Gibb saying that he was surprised when they inwented the term DISCO as they thought would be RnB. Everything gets labelled, it is a nightmare to stay ahead knowing which is which.

    It's all a matter of perspective, don't forget how popular The Commitments were 10 years ago and they're still gigging all over the world with only 2 of the original crew.

    I play in a soul band and I can tell you that 1) there isn't enough of it and 2) people dig it.

    That said, there is nothing worse than every second band murdering Soul Classics, if I hear another 'aul fella riding Sally I'll go bananas:mad: :D

    Anybody looking for a simply fantastic blend of 60's/70's soul and electronic Prince style soul just has to get Jamie Lidells album Multiply. IT IS AMAZING!!! You wont believe this is a white english guy, you'll honestly think your listening to otis or Al Green on some of the songs! Listen to this and you'll reconsider soul being dead!
