    Hi a laptop with 1.73ghz, with what is it equivalent as a desktop
    with what can u compare? 2.4ghz , 2ghz.,.......

    what kind of processor is it? pentium M? pentium 4? athlon XP? celeron? celeron M? turion?

    Depends on what you are doing. Also how fast the computer does something depends on the other parts of the system. HD speed, FSB, GFX etc. Comparing a CPU directly isn't useful. You would be better comparing how fast a game plays, encodes or rips DVD or MP3 etc. Queries a database etc. Best to look at some benchmarks running similar tasks to what you are interested in. Most online reviews will do this.

    To a mod: could a bit of info regarding the difference between the clock speeds of Athlons, Turions, Pentium M, Pentium M celeron, ordinary pentium 4 ect. be added to the 'read here before asking for laptop advice' sticky? It seems a lot of people are confused about it (and no wonder, it's a bit of a nightmare)

    best way to judge is the speed of the bus and not processor. a lot of the time the delay is that processor is waiting on info to arrive as the bus is slower than the processor.
