    It's more like animation. Which can be general. In this case it's digital animation/rendering.

    Those pics are CG renderings from Animatrix, a series of 10 animted short films set in the Matrix universe, which are prequels to The Matrix. Some will be traditional manga-style animations, while others will be CG, made by Square USA - the people responsible for Final Fantasy - so you can expect some gorgeous visuals. I'm betting that all of them will be fairly cool!
    according to Joel Silverman...
    "[They take us] from the world we're in today to the world of the Matrix and [show] how we got there. We have assembled a team of unbelievably talented and renowned Japanese animation directors and artists to create a series of short films that will be accessible either on the Internet or eventually on DVD."
