Anyone know or used a floor sanding company in the Dublin area that you would recommend? I want two rooms and a hall sanded and varnished and am looking around for quotes/recommendations.

    Thanks.

Athboy flooring did our five bedrooms in one day.... no mess at all very good... I think they did most of the houses in the estate and not a bad word against them.....

No mess, as in no dust? Sounds good. How much did it cost?

Yep I mean no dust and no mess...

They sanded, stained and Varnished all 5 bedrooms for 900 euros

If anybody is interested in a floor sanding company....

I found this thread doing a search on Google.

I got Athboy flooring (based on the recommendation above of garyh3) to sand and varnish two floors in our house. It's the second time that they have been sanded. The last guy did a good job but many years of inhaling toxic varnish affected his brain. He spent a lot of time talking to and arguing with himself. The missus didn't want him back.

Anyway, they did a great job and were cheaper than most of the quotes we got from the yellow pages. We will definitely use them again.

    We're living in Dublin.

We got our sitting room, dining room and hall done last week. €700, included removal of old carpets, sanding, two coats of stain and one coat of varnish. Left the place spotless. The guy's name is David Barnes, Based in Dun Laoghaire.

This guy is Great - He did our Hall in 1 day, sanded and put down three coats and no mess. Even managed to remove all the Stilletto heel-nail marks. Cant recommed him highly enough!! - saved us replacing the floor - all for €240!

Was getting Ariane, but either they or I got the day wrong (read - they), so I cancelled them and got this guy based on the recommendation here. Top, top job, 240 vs. 300 with Ariane. Was there when he said he would be - how good is that?

    He even cleaned up after!

I've haven't used him yet but this fellow has been recommend to me from a friend of mine. I'll be getting a few downstairs rooms done. Apparently he's mainly doing the East coast from Waterford to Dublin but will do mine since it's through a friend and I'm based in Cork.

His contact details are here: http://www.floor-sanding-ireland.com

If anyone else knows of him please let me know what you thought of his work.

I'm looking to have the floor sanded at home. Some of these posts go back a couple of years. I wondered if there was any more recent recommendations or do these guys already mentioned still stand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 391 ✭✭Dopey

I'd say that Athboy flooring are still knocking around. It seemed to be a one man show and the guy claimed to be at it for years. One thing he was good at was the colour he mixed up in the stain. It still looks good after two years.

The guy from Dun Laoghaire that Sally31 mentioned was cheaper though and comes recommended by others.

I've also used this guy David Barnes and I can't recommend him highly enough, very competive prices....I priced around with at least 3 others and Daves quote came in at least €200 cheaper, super clean/efficient, very happy with his work!!

David Barnes charged me €680 for four bedrooms, 2 good size doubles and 2 box rooms, that included sanding, staining and varnishing, others wanted between 880 and 1,100.00 He did it in 2days and used the dust free sanders. I got him from this forum and am delighted with the results :-)

Athboy Flooring did my floors 11 years ago in Sligo - I had forgotten who had done them. His name was John or Sean I think? He did a great job. In and out quickly. Place left as it was before. I have another job needs doing now for my house in Athlone and thanks to boards.ie I remember who did them in Sligo. I'll let ye know how it works out on price ... etc

We had Richard (Professional Sanders) do all the floors throughout our house, they were like new after he had finished.

We had just got the keys of the new house the day Richard arrived, and he gave us great advice on different things that needed work.
He also let us keep their floor protecting mats, so when all the other workers were coming and going they wouldn't mess up the floors.

No affiliation with them, they just did a great job and were cheaper than some of the other quotes we got!!

stupid question but how does a dust free sander work?is it just a bag?

    Yes its just a bag.

Another recommendation for David Barnes. We were looking for floors in an old house to be sanded and varnished, I found Dave's details here (and also on askaboutmoney). Initially I was a little skeptical, but having had Dave and a few companies come and look at the floors we decided to go with Dave.

Dave sanded the dining room, sitting room, entrance hall and two bedrooms and we are absolutely delighted with his work. He's a very personable guy, arrived when he said he would, pays so much attention to detail, he gave us tips and opinions on dye colours and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted.

As I got the recommendation from here I thought it was only right to come back and give me two cents. I took some before and after photos of the work Dave did so if anyone else is thinking about using him and wants to see some of his work let me know.

I used Dave last September, and would recommend him highly. He changed a job around to accommodate me, and sanded, and varnished three coats in one day. The floor still looks great.

We had Dave sand our floors in our new house last month. He did 9 rooms in total & did the whole place in a few days, extremely pleasant to deal with & he worked around our schedules with work etc. He kept the place spotless and the floors were beautifully finished. Friends & family keep commenting on the excellent job, I would highly reccomend him & he is by far the most competetive with price. I will try & post pics in the next few days.

I took your advise here and got in touch with Dave who came on tuesday to measure the room and give a quote. The floor was previously painted thickly with paint and I asked him to strip back to original boards and varnish.

He came in on the weds started at 8am and finished all by 3pm the same day. A room 12foot x 9foot and all done for 200 euros.

A good job, clean finish and value for money. Would be happy to recommend him to anyone. Daves no: 086 2938658
