Anyone got the top NTL Broadband connection?

Whats the max download speed on it?

I find that the 2MB Eircom one caps out at about 200kbp/s.

    Thanks

Downloading iTunes from www.apple.com the transfer rate is 382 Kbps, or roughly 2.9 Mbps :)

    Results from irishisptest.com

    Download 2.42Mbps = 302Kb/s
    upload 285kbs = 35.7Kb/s

    dslguide.org.uk
    Downstream 2659 Kbps (332.4 KB/sec) 2871 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 284 Kbps (35.5 KB/sec) 306 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Don't think I've ever seen it above 2.5Mbps so I'm thinking that the 2MB option is probably better.

i wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 3mb option. (and NTL as a whole)
great service so far (once i got ever the headaches caused by the crappy wireless gear they give you if running a cable is out of the question...)

can someone explain this to me?

tried looking up on net but can't really understand it.

    thanks Download 2.93Mbps = 366Kb/s
    upload 288kbs = 36Kb/s

i know that 366kb/s is the transfer rate, but what is the 2.93 Mbps then?

Got to know yer bits from your Bytes :)

    8 bits in a byte - so multiply 366 X 8 = 2928Kbps or 2.928Mbps

Yes, I use a Cisco VPN for working from home.

It is against their policy, but they don't enforce it, it is only there to protect them against abuse.

I have to say that it is definitely a superb service.

I wonder if anyone knows can the co-ax cable be extended ok with one of those diy adapters you get in hardware stores. I got my box placed on the wrong sie of the wall and the cable is now too short.

    You've got three options:

    1) yes, you can use a splitter and it should work fine.

    2) you could place the modem by the cable box and run a long ethernet cable from the modem to the Xbox.

    3) you could get a wireless router, attach it to the modem by the cable box and get a wireless AP for the Xbox.

BTW if you haven't got the BB installed yet, when you are getting it installed, NTL will install a new point where ever you want it for the BB.

Thanks bk - I would only be using it 'occasionally' to connect to office for support purposes :)
