i want to know if y'all would be in favour of "advertising" boards around the IT? lets face it outside of comsoc noone uses the boards, and it good be used for so much, (couldn't it?) if y'all are in favour mail me i'll "design" (i is a designer after all) some adverts and post em here (not being in carlow at the moi can't put em around)

Should we go "public"? 17 votes

Yeah, I suggested this last year. I don't know the position of the college though, if they'll allow leaflets/flyers being handed out or pinned up.

The college wouldn't have a problem with it... why would they? It's an excellent idea as the Carlow.it thread is just about dead... Not many people know about it and as you say those who do only seem to be members of compsoc or netsoc (Mostly)... I'm in favour... ;)

If you are going to do it though, please pass the poster by myself and ivan first, please.

i'll post it here, i can't stick em up myself due to being in dublin or london all the time, if the posters are kept to the poster boards and areas provided but handing things out are a no-no

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,220 ✭✭✭✭m5ex9oqjawdg2i

Handing things out would be a no no because why?

Nice input s4dd, I like your thinking...

the college doesn't allow it, i used to be part of the socialist soc and we wanted to hand out stuff they wouldn't let us, ever see the guy with the god books and stuff? he can only sit and be approached but not approach others, so handing things out wouldn't be alowed

if they dontwe can kick up stink!!
lets wait for a week and see how the poll goes 1st though

The SUI presedent won't have a problem with putting a little ad in the blurb. I think putting up posters around the college will recruit as good... ;)

So what exactly is the big deal in approaching someone? Apart from the fact that if it happens often enough people get pissed...

doesn't seem to be any problems about handing out information about the latest night in the barracks and the like.

they're just touchy borsturdads about things like that, its a case of rubbing them up the wrong way, when i was a 1st year the su pres was a big finna failer, i was swp didn't like that get our soc a bit of a hard one abput little things but c'est la vie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,220 ✭✭✭✭m5ex9oqjawdg2i

So where exactly are you from and where dould I get a dictonary for the language in which you speak? Seriously though... was that supposed to make some kind of sence???

Anyway, when are you guys thinking of starting this? If there is anyway I can help let me know, I will announce it at Compsoc tomorrow night. ;)

The only reason I think the college would have a problem with it was the fact that when I was in the drama society (that invariably did nothing every year due to lack of commitment) they weren't happy with us handing out leaflets in the canteen or library to try and get people to join, so much so they simply told us it was never going to happen. Go for the blurb thing, most folks only skim read it though (we put an ad in there for the last three years, week in, week out) and might not notice it. I dunno if you'll attract many people to here anyhow (do give it a shot though), I think it's the reserve of computer types and maverick designers..

posters are fine, blurb would be fine, but i think they view handouts as a nuisence

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 290 ✭✭CareBear

Ye don't really need to hand out flyers anyhow.
The posters and advert in the blurb should attract enough attention I'd say

we dont really need to vote on this. its a forum for the students of the college so they deserve to know about the place. its not just for a select few. yes there will be a certain smell of muppet around but that will be a small price to pay.

a poster is fine but it wont reach everyone. an email could be sent to the leaders of the societies and get them to spread the word to their members. im sure every society out there would be happy to avail of a forum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭s4dd

HA!!!! i've been begging the societies for ages to let us host forums for them... you'd be suprised just how lazy/uninterested the socs of carlowit can be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

well its not a hosting proposal. this is more of a casual proposal. i.e. is not really asking for any comittment its just saying drop by every now and again. the reason i made the point is that there should be no problem emailing these people and they in turn have the potential to get alot of people involved. they dont have to create a thread for their soc just drop a line or two.

im not saying this is THE way to do it, im just offering a suggestion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

yeah but i'd say there are plenty of "peeps" (im a gangsta) not in soc's, so lets just do as much as possible, i didn't want to ruffel any feathers of those alreay on boards by just going solo on the whole thing, but generally all systems are go yeah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭s4dd

    yeah, i guess so
