I got a bottle of Bells Christmas 1998 8 year old Scotch Whisky at a car boot sale in the UK for GBP21 at the weekend.

    Has anyone had it before?

    Yes.
By the way- whiskey is normally aged in the cask- so an 8 year old Scotch bought 10 years ago is not the same as an 18 year old scotch.....

Personally, I find an Irish single malt to be much smoother and more mellow than a comparable Scotch- Old Middleton for example. Scotch gets a lot of its flavour from the peat its filtered through- Irish whiskeys tend to pick up a lot of flavour from the second hand sherry casks used to age them......

I don't like Bells, but then thats a personal taste.

Yeah since posting that I have opened the bottle and tried a wee dram, it is not the best taste wise and I find it is heavily flavoured by the eartherware bottle it is in.
It would not be my choice of drink either but I'm sure it'll be drunk at some point ;)
