PCs on LAN can't ping each other

    Hi,

A friend has 2 pcs on a LAN with a Netopia Wireless router. Both PCs can reach the internet with no problems and can ping sites and IP addresses on the internet. What they can't do is ping each other. Consequently, they cannot see each other on My Network Places, so file sharing can't happen (although file sharing is enabled on both pcs).

Both boxes are running XP; one on SP1 and the other on SP2.

Can anyone offer any suggestions why communication between the PCs at the ping level is failing, as he needs to get file sharing up and running? Anything I should know about wrt the Netopia router that may be causing the problem?

    Thankz ...zx
