    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direstion with this problem. About a week ago i was using my old computer in my room(no-internet connection) and it was working fine. The next time i turned it on a message appeared telling me to search for new drivers for the monitor which i did and it seems to have switched to vga(seems to be the stardard driver on the pc) and now the amount of colours that can appear on my screen is only 16 at max. I'm not sure if the video card needs to b changed to what it was before or i need to download a new one. I have the internet on this, the main computer, so i can download things and bring them to thew old comouter on my mp3 player.
Any help would really be appreciated. Seeing as it worked before i would only need to reverse the problem?? The monitor is a gateway 2000 vivitron 15 and the computer uses windows 98. And maybe its unrelated but i think the computer had a nVidia graphics card.
    Thank you for any help

Can you get an internet connection to your old computer? This would be the easiest solution...Go to device manager & uninstall the display adaper, restart the machine & when it finds the new hardware seclet connect to the internet to search for driver...

is the PC a gateway or just a self made or other model ?

you could go to a internet cafe and download the Nividia drivers from there , if you look inside the case the the lable or markings on the video card should tell you what class of video chip set it is

it used to be connected to a gateway pc but i have since changed it to a dell. It did work with the dell before now. I have the internet at home on this computer? Y would an internet cafe be better?
    Thanks

Whats the model of DELL ?, do you still have their driver cd , other wise they have all the drivers on their website , just put in the service tag number on the machine and it will tell you what drivers to get , burn them on a cd via the other machine

Only reason I suggested an internet cafe was if the drivers were a 12mb downloads etc

am...there is a few problems here, the USB ports on my computer dont seem to b picking up the flash drives im using which they did before so there is possibly a bigger problem here, maybe a virus. I decided to change the monitor back to the oroignal dell one to see if it might find some compatible diplay adapter in there but it doesnt seemed to hav eworked. If anyone else would have more ideas on how to fix it would b great but without flash drives working it makes it alot harder. I could try floppys but the file would have to b small and may not work.
Anyway thanks if you could help at all

mmm could be motherboard drivers thats the prob. If you ever format a HD and then install windows you often find that if you don't install the drivers for motherboard/chipset then it won't proberly dectect video card/network card/ usb/etc. So maybe the prob is with the motherboard setup rather than video card.

If you go into device manager how many unknown devices (devices with yellow exclamation marks beside them) are visible?

I got onto dell support and they told me the drivers to use to fix these problems but they didnt work so I think there is possibly a bigger problem at work here, mayb a virus. Does anyone know if you can restart a computer at its original settings to remove changes done to it? Like system restore but for windows 98?? And would this even help? I think I'll get onto dell by phone but if anyone could help it would b great,
    Thanks a million
