Producer Recycling Fund

    I was just looking at a digital compass on Lidl.ie, and I noticed that it costs €14.99 + €2 Producer Recycling Fund.

    Now can anyone please explain to me what this €2 Producer Recycling Fund is? Is it compulsary or is it just another swifty little tax?!

    I thought the Producer Recycling Fund paid for someone to come and take away your old washing machine when the new one was being delivered etc.

    Who's coming to take my old compass to the dump!?! :mad:

    And if you go further into that thread, you can see that it is the shop's responsibility to pay the WEEE tax, not the consumer.

    I think you're confusing two different thinge here. A retailer is indeed not allowed to charge anyone for taking back an old appliance at the end of it's life when you're buying a new one. BUT producers and distributors of electrical goods are allowed to charge (for a limited period) a so-called EMC, or Environmental Management Cost on the price of new goods. If the producer or distributor does this, the retailer is legally obliged to clearly label this for the customer. See http://tinyurl.com/c7ez7 page 4.
