Just installed Suse 9.3 as my very first all grown up distro. I spent the evening setting up the connection to my wireless lan and I'm very proud of myself. Just having one little prob maybe someone can help me with, I'm trying to connect to the MSN messenger service with Kopete and it's telling me that it cant find the server. Does anyone have any suggestions ??

    Thanks
    K

How are you connected to the internet exactly? Someone, somewhere may be blocking the necessary ports?

Connecting to a wireless D-Link switch with the broadband router connected to it. Messenger works fine under XP on the same machine.

Well then I dunno. MSN can be tricky because they keep changing the protocol and stuff and they don't have to tell anybody, but I don't think that makes it unable to find the server, just unable to log in. It might be no harm all the same to make sure you have the most up-to-date client possible, or try using jabber, because it uses gateway servers to other networks so you don't have to worry about keeping up to date.

I have kopete running on my home and work machines both behind routers and firewalls and neither work. http://kopete.kde.org/ There's a new version to download from their site which is a fix for the latest mikrosoft blocking tactic. Kopete works sometimes when i am outside of a main firewall etc, directly on the net..... suse 9.3 is odd though it isnt their best effort .... it installed fine on my work PC (all ps2 connectors) but the mouse doesnt work on my home machine (usb mouse ) i have tried all the workarounds and still no joy.... ....odd :(
