BF2 Noob in training - Singlemode. Anything else?

Just got BF2 a few days ago for my tasty new machine, and I'm waiting for Broadband in a couple of weeks.
So, I'm trying out all the maps and weapons etc on the single player maps... and am getting to grips with it all.
It's a bit annoying not being able to play on a bigger map and larger scale though... is there anyway to let me open larger maps?
BF2 really seems to be an online gaming experience... but does the single player mode offer anything more??
Is there anything else I should train up on before hitting the crazy world of online gaming with BF2?

I usted to play 1942 and vietnam offline for a year before i got Broadband.

At lest i knew what to do when i went online.;)

theres a co-op mod that allows you to play on slightly bigger versions of the single player maps with 30 bots and planes/choppers

I'm not sure, but you may be able to creat your own game and play on any of the maps. You'll be on your own with no bots, but it'll let you see what's there.
