Obscure UNIX workstation question of the year

    Why is my SGI Indy booting but not outputting graphics? Machine boots, the indytune plays, hard disk spins up, light goes green - good for go, basically. But no picture on the attached monitor (through a 13W3->VGA convertor). Tried a variaty of screens, none even give me "out of range" or anything similar, and the convertor should be fine.

    Any SGI heads around? Or know where to find some?

    well, the last monitor I tried (old TFT with the shakes) gives me an out of range warning. Understandable, as the Indy drives 1280x1024@60Hz by default and this is a 1024x768 panel. Anyone got any idea of a key combo like the ones Windows and BeOS have to drop back to base resolution (1024x768@60Hz, in the Indy's case - sure beats 640x480...)

    I have a CD with an Irix build of openoffice on it -
    can't remember what version.

    But... I also have an SGI monitor with 13W3 connector,
    and I drive through the Dublin end of
    Kildare a couple of times a week.

    It'll at least let you see what the beast thinks its putting out.
