I'm trying to hook up a new laptop to the internet. I'm using exactly the same wire that I use for my desktop PC. When i plug it in i go to network settings then enter all the different IPs (DNS, gateway etc...).

When i try to activate it, i get a red cross on the icon and it says that there is no wire connected which is false.

sorry if this is the wrong forum section but i couldn't find another one related to this subject

    Thanx in advance

What ISP are you using and how is it setup...router/switch or what exactly.
You described your problem in a vague manner...so help will be patchy without more detail.
