hey guys who came up with this word again?
I know you want it circulated into everyday speak whoever it was, or there was a poll or something, well mission accomplished!
I'm using it the whole time, and people around me are gonna start soon too, you can just tell!
    Anyone else finding this happening?

    ho!

and one definition is :Crapfork (n) A misfortunate occurrence which is equally as amusing and ironic as it is annoying

yeah, eh I just seem to remember something to do with paradox's when it came to crapfork...

    better def,

crapfork (n) Describes the opposite of serendipity. The 'crapfork' occurs when something you had been looking forward to is cancelled or turns out to be crap, or is in some way a disappointment. It can also apply to an unexpected misfortune of any kind, or more generally still to any undesirable situation.

yeah that good going bad thingy is where I got the paradox from...

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,119 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

paradox would be if it was good and bad at the same time
and extends to things like''to have peace,we must be prepared for war''

I dunno, the whole crapfork experiment was a nice idea, but it just all seems so forced and un-natural.
boards.ie has been host to some of its own slang terms, like the verb Typedef, but they all came about naturally and not because someone posted something saying "hey, lets all start saying XYZ in real life!". Besides, slang words are usually abreviations of existing words or a hybid of two words to form something in between, crap and fork have nothing to do with the meaning which is something like "An incident which is both annoying and funny in equal measures".
I think any new slang term that you want to manufacture should have one syllable and have a much more straight forward meaning and relevance.

yeah, eh apparently I'm a pardox of myself, I still look at the girl in puzzlement when she says that!

I'm not suggesting that Typdef is the perfect example of boards.ie slang that has made its way into real world english, it's just an example of how something developed into boardsieworld slang.

What was the background story to crapfork, anyway?

I like the word grap*, it's simalar to crapfork, when something starts out to be great, but ends up crap. You could turn it around too, but then you'd end up with crate.

*not my word. Belongs to, well, lets call her....Anna. Because that's her name.

Me and Exoffender came up with it. It's the opposite to serendipity.

This isn't really what we originally defined it as. It's more like when you're looking forward to something and then it turns out **** because of some stupid little reason. It's kinda like the stick in the mud.

What the hell are you all sh*ting on about? A crapfork already exists, way before boards "made it up":
