Estilo indorecto (Spanish grammar)

Hola a todos, I am studying spanish and find the concept of the estilo indirecto very hard to understand was just wondering if any spaniah speakers could help me to understand it better or is there a formula i could learn to apply when using the estilo indirecto? Muchas Gracias Betty B :)
